The Fox Mountains
The Fox Mountains are a natural and historical monument. It is located near the town of Kadnikov in the Sokolsky district of the Vologda region. From the outside, it looks like a quarry, which I've always been sure of.
In fact, this is a fragment of the Olarev Ridge, a moraine formation in a landscape consisting of hills.
I still can't believe it's not a dug-out quarry.
It is a site of ancient people of the Mesolithic era, which was more than 8 thousand years ago.
The Fox Mountains are mostly made up of sand, gravel, and boulders.
Officially, they are not mountains, they are hills with steep slopes, which are favored by motocross enthusiasts.
One of the boulders is called Stone Baba.
I still didn't figure out where it was, because I found a lot of boulders.
The boulders are huge! Some reach a height of one and a half meters.
From the highest point, you can see the Kadnikov.
Around the quarry...that is, lakes, many different roads and drives.
You can drive around in a circle and even get to the peninsulas.
I liked this place, although I still think it's a quarry.
While walking around the hills, I found a lot of mushrooms.
I would also come here just for a walk.
But I still haven't found any information about the name – why are the Fox Mountains?
Perhaps this place is often visited by foxes. There is another version that the mountains were called bald.
After digging deeper on the Internet, I found information that sand was mined here and some of the hills were cut off.
Nevertheless, the place is interesting with its ancient history and deserves my attention!
