Mercado Guajiro Artesanal - Maracaibo
When we go on vacation or a trip, we always want to bring a souvenir or memento from the place to give as a gift or keep as a keepsake. We almost never know where to find these items.
In Maracaibo, you can find local handicrafts in a mini-mall dedicated to selling these souvenirs on Avenida El Milagro. These are small stores set up for this purpose, allowing you to find all or most of them together.
In these stores you will find: hats, bags, purses, espadrilles, sandals, souvenirs for the wall and the table, guajira blankets, and the famous hammocks and chinchorros.
These hammocks cost $350 and are handmade by crochet. They are world-renowned and highly sought after by foreigners as they decorate any space in the garden or home and are comfortable for resting.
Guajira blankets are also famous, as they have been seen on beauty pageant runways worldwide. Of course, they have beads and sequins to further enhance the beauty of the beauty queen wearing them.
The bags are priced at $30. The bag part is crocheted and the handles are macramé, but with the same crochet thread. They are also custom-made, so if you want it personalized with your name or the color of your choice.
This lovely object brought back wonderful memories, as I had a couple of these in my house. This little monkey is a coconut carved in the shape of a monkey. What's significant is the material, which is the city's typical fruit: the coconut.
Carts alluding to our typical "Cepillaos," a type of ice cream made with ice and a colored drink that cools us down in the heat as we walk down the street.
The name of our indigenous "Guayú," one of the Guajira ethnic groups in the country.
Maracas, made from the fruit of a tree called "Tapara," are also used to make rustic cups and spoons, and their interior is medicinal.
And our musical instrument, the Cuatro, that identifies us in our music, couldn't be missing from this tour.
The small shopping center doesn't have opening or closing times since each one is independent, but it normally opens at 9 a.m. and closes at 3 p.m.

Cuando salimos de viaje de vacaciones o de paseo siempre queremos llevar un souvenir o recuerdo del lugar para regalar o tenerlo de recuerdo. Casi nunca sabemos donde encontrar estos objetos.
En Maracaibo puedes encontrar artesanía autóctona en un mini centro comercial dedicado a la venta de estos recuerdos, en la Avenida El Milagro. Son unos locales pequeños que dispusieron para este fin y poder encontrarlos todos juntos o la mayoría de ellos.
En estos locales encontraras: sombreros, bolsos, carteras, alpargatas, sandalias, recuerdos para la pared y par la mesa, manta guajira y las famosas hamacas y chinchorros.
Estas hamacas tienen un valor de 350 dólares y son hechas a mano, a ganchillo. Son mundialmente conocidas y muy buscadas por extranjeros ya que decoran cualquier lugar del jardín o de la casa y son cómodas para descansar.
Las Mantas Guajiras también son famosas ya que han sido vistas en las pasarelas de concursos de bellezas a nivel mundial, claro que esas tienen canutillos y lentejuelas para resaltar mucho más la belleza de la miss que la lleva.
Los bolsos tienen un valor de 30 dólares, la parte del bolso es tejida en crochet y la parte de las asas tejida es tejida en macramé pero con el mismo hijo de crochet y lo tejen por encargo también, si lo quieres personalizado con tu nombre o con el color que elijas.
Este lindo objeto me trajo bellos recuerdos ya que en mi casa había un par de estos. Este monito es un coco tallado en forma de mono. Lo significativo es el material que es el fruto típico de la ciudad, el Coco.
Carros alusivos a nuestros típicos ¨Cepillaos¨ que es un tipo de helado que se hace con hielo y bebida de color que nos refresca mucho el calor cuando andamos caminando por la calle.
El nombre de nuestros indígenas ¨Guayú¨ una de las etnias guajiras que hay en el país.
Las maracas que son elaboradas con un fruto de un árbol llamado ¨Tapara¨, también se usa para elaborar pocillos y cucharas rústicas y su interior es medicinal.
Y nuestro instrumento musical que nos identifica en nuestra música: El Cuatro, no podía faltar en este recorrido.
El pequeño centro comercial no tiene horario para abrir o para cerrar ya que cada uno es independiente, pero normalmente abre a las 9 y cierra a las 3 de la tarde.
