Hello dear friends,
I hope you all are doing well and spending a beautiful life with your loved ones. I wish you all happiness and peace.

Bangladesh is a riverine country. The nation’s development, culture, and way of life have grown and thrived along its countless rivers for centuries. Sadarghat, located in the heart of Dhaka, is a living witness to this heritage. It is not just a dock; it is one of the main gateways connecting the capital with the southern districts of the country. Every day, thousands of people travel to and from Sadarghat, keeping the lifeline of river transport alive.

A few months ago, I had the chance to visit Sadarghat myself. During the day, the terminal is relatively calm, but as evening approaches, the crowd begins to swell. This is because most passenger launches depart after dusk. From Dhaka, these night launches head toward various districts in the south—Barishal, Chandpur, Shariatpur, Bhola, Jhalokathi, Patuakhali, and more. They travel through the night and reach their destinations at dawn. After spending the day docked, they prepare to depart again in the evening, returning to Dhaka. This cycle continues every day, keeping Dhaka and Southern Bengal constantly connected.

When I reached Sadarghat, I was amazed by the sheer size of the vessels docked there. These passenger launches are not just means of transportation—they represent a new dimension of modern river travel. Names like Parabat, Adventure, Jamjam, Baghdad, Sundarban caught my eye. Each launch looked like a floating hotel, designed for comfort as much as for travel.

The launches have multiple decks, ranging from two to as many as five floors. Many are equipped with modern amenities—air-conditioned cabins, refrigerators, televisions, electric staircases, beautiful lighting, even restaurant-style dining facilities. Together, these features offer travelers a comfortable and enjoyable journey across the country’s waterways.

What surprised me most was the decoration. Especially at night, Sadarghat transforms into a festival of lights. Bright LED displays, colorful patterns, decorative balconies—all combine to create a vibrant, almost celebratory atmosphere on the river. It feels less like boarding a ferry and more like stepping into a world of comfort and excitement.

Although I didn’t travel on a launch that day, I explored several of them inside and out. I walked through the decks, checked the cabins, stairs, and open spaces. Standing on these majestic vessels, ready to cut through the rivers of Southern Bengal, filled me with excitement and joy. I felt a strong desire to one day travel to Barishal or Kuakata by launch, InshaAllah.

Sadarghat is not merely a transportation hub; it is deeply woven into the lifestyle of the people of Southern Bengal. Every day, thousands rely on these launches for work, education, medical needs, or to reunite with their loved ones. Over time, the launches have modernized, improving passenger comfort, yet the timeless charm of river travel—the sound of flowing water, the calm of the night, the quiet rhythm of the journey—remains unchanged.

The launches of Sadarghat stand as a shining example of Bangladesh’s river transport system. For anyone who has never experienced a long journey on the river, I would highly recommend at least one trip from Sadarghat to Barishal or Kuakata. The thrill of slicing through the river and arriving at your destination under the soft light of dawn is truly unforgettable.

Thanks all
