Tea, Friendship, and an Evening of House Hunting

Hello dear friends,
I hope you all are doing well and spending a beautiful life with your loved ones. I wish you all happiness and peace.

The last day of July turned out to be quite a unique and memorable experience. After office hours in the evening, I went out with my colleague, Humayun Bhai, to look for a new apartment. Humayun Bhai has been working in our office for nearly 20 years. Although his hometown is in Dinajpur, Rangpur division, he currently lives in Dhaka.

His current residence is a bit far from his child’s school and other necessary facilities. It takes about 20 taka by auto-rickshaw to reach the main road, which makes daily commuting quite troublesome. Additionally, the apartment is surrounded by tall buildings, leaving little room for natural light and fresh air.

For these reasons, he decided to move to a new place and is hoping to find an apartment near where I live, closer to the main road, so that his child can easily commute to school and enjoy a brighter, airier living space. That evening, we went from one neighborhood to another by rickshaw and auto, searching for a suitable home.

While we were moving around, we unexpectedly ran into one of our former colleagues—Rifat Bhai. He used to work with us for almost nine years but left his job last year to pursue online work. Originally from Jhenaidah in Khulna division, he now rents a place nearby.

Rifat Bhai was overjoyed to see us and insisted we come to his home, without giving us a chance to say no. His hospitality was truly heartwarming. With whatever he had at home, he made us feel welcome. Tea, some sugar-coated biscuits, and a few singaras—though simple, the sincerity in his gesture made it feel like royal treatment. Especially the milk tea he prepared left a soothing warmth in my heart.

He didn’t stop at just the snacks—Rifat Bhai also gave us some valuable suggestions about where we might find available apartments in the area. Since he lives nearby, his input was incredibly helpful.

This little incident reminded me again of the beauty of human connection and sincerity. Amid our busy lives, some moments touch us deeply. The kindness and warmth of certain people leave a lasting impression. Rifat Bhai’s spontaneous hospitality is one such memory that I will cherish for a long time.

Today is Friday, a holiday, and we plan to go out again to continue the house hunting. But one thing is clear—finding the perfect apartment is no easy task. If there’s good gas supply, there might be water issues. If water is available, the roads might be in terrible condition. It feels like there’s always some compromise to make.

Still, I hope today we can find a place that feels right—a room with an open window, the soft sound of a child’s laughter, and the calming steam rising from a fresh cup of tea.

Thanks all
