Greetings, CCS friends. Have you ever witnessed a solar halo? Well, I'm telling you, I witnessed this interesting natural phenomenon again today.

First signs

Today, around 10:30 a.m., I looked up at the sky and noticed a semicircular line on one side of the sun. I knew it was a solar halo. What struck me as different was that it hadn't yet formed as a circle around the sun; only a portion of it could be seen. The sun was very bright and I resorted to my sunglasses to capture images of the halo as it rose in the sky. There is a scientific explanation for the formation of solar halos: the presence of ice crystals in the atmosphere, such as those that form "cirrostratus" clouds in the upper atmosphere.

Here you can see that around noon the halo could be seen in its entire circumference. The trick I implemented to photograph it more easily was to use the front camera of the cell phone, just as if it were a selfie. Throughout the world, people attribute many meanings to this type of natural phenomena, both negative, such as that it announces misfortunes, and in the same way they attribute good omens and positive changes to it.
