Beetlejuice Beetlejuince: not as charmingsteemCreated with Sketch.

The first movie was a classic of comedic horror with decent effects (although many are very dated). This long-waited sequel isn't as fun, but it has its moments.

Lydia Deetz hosts a supernatural show were she visits haunted houses. She is also haunted by apparitions from Beetlejuice. She's going back to Winter Rivers to attend her father's funeral with her estranged daughter, who believes her mom is crazy. Astrid does find an interesting young man, who seems to share similar interests...

Because of controversies surrounding Jeffrey Jones, the movie took many efforts to kill him off. That part was fine, but the comics showing his demise was a little ridiculous. Also, Catherine O'Hara's character seems far more excentric than before. Sure, her art is always... original, but she's a little bit too much over-the-top, like her role in Schitt's Creek left its mark.

Wyona Ryder's Lisa was good, although she seems to have lost her force of character somehow. Like those pills she's taking had a sedative effect. As for Jenna Ortega, she was probably my favorite character. Typical teen who hates her mom, and her strict adherence to reason was appealing... until she sees.

In other words, you might been dissapointed if you were a fan of the first movie. The sandworm wasn't much improved, and the side story with Beetlejuice's love from Medieval Europe was lame. BUt as a standalone, it was entertaining enough.
