The Naked Gun (2025): the laugh we all need
When I learned that The Naked Gun was coming back to theaters, I was both fearful and excited. I got ore excited as critics were good, and I wasn't dissapointed.
Frank Drebin's son is also an officer (along with a few others, but we barely hear about them). After messing with a bank robbery investigation, he is put on car crashes. He meets the victim's sister, who thinks there might be foul play. Against his best wishes, she joins the investigation.
If you haven't watched more that the official trailers and have your eyes wide opened, there's NO way you won't laugh. It is completely absurd, with clever puns and visual gags in nearly every scenes (including, you might have guessed it, during the credits). It mostly in good taste, except the unavoidable suggestive positions through IR googles. Some gags are also stretched too long like the body cam from the robbery and lost pants on live TV. Some gags could have gone farther like the OJ Simpson "memorial"; his son (?) could have still be a part of the team.
As far as the actors go, I agree that Pamela Anderson has unexpected comedic talents. Sure, there are gags about her appearance, but she isn't the dumb blonde like Anna Nicole Smith was. I don't know if she does all the scat we see, but that was surely unexpected and done well. She even goes along the puns in the most serious manner. Speaking of which, Liam Neeson was perfect to deliver those poker-faced puns without flinching.
In other words, this movie is definitely worth at least a watch, but probably more to get all the gags. It's like anything with the Minions: nothing serious, meant for light-hearted humor to make you forget about your problems. The few social commentaries are so subtle that I just got them reading the Wikipedia article.
