RE: Colouring Accomplished #20: Beautiful Headdress of Cherokee

in #colouring6 years ago

The colours are nice.

The Cherokee never wore head dresses like that though, the headless and war bonnet was further north and a plains Indian outfit. Lakota, Cree area.

And women never wore them. It was usually reserved for the leader, or spiritual leaders.

Thank you. I see now... Supposedly for Leaders (traditionally). But nowadays, anyone just wear it as a costume...?

It’s really frowned upon by First Nations when people wear it as a costume.

In a headdress, each feather is earned through doing some amazing for the tribe. Sort of like medals on a soldier. We get kind of angry when people just go around wearing them.

Traditionally it’s presented to a person by the elders.

I see. That's really good to know. I do agree, it's not something to be taken lightly. Thank you so much for the information.
