RE: Attitudes Have Consequences

in #community6 years ago

Being a content creator, socially speaking, is essentially being an artist, whether you're writing, sharing visual art, music, or whatever, and artists are always treated like we don't deserve shit for our work. Like we can buy groceries in "exposure."
art is a gift.jpg
And yet, companies like FB and YouTube/Google make billions off our content and data. And they wouldn't exist without us - whether we're shitposting or memesharing or just bitching about our day or sharing photos of our cats, OR creating intricate, amazing content that took hours of work if not longer.
I don't know how any investors imagine we're going to onboard the masses if once they get here, they're told that they don't social media well enough, or whatever. Isn't the investment doing well somewhat predicated on mass adoption? Or am I missing something?
Ah, well. I'll just keep tinkering in my corner, doing my thing, hanging out with good people, and trying to make the world a better place. The investors can pass around their drama tokens every time someone writes a line of code, or discusses writing a line of code, or argues about code already written. I can't control that any more than I can control the tide. As long as the blockchain is still working, I'll probably be here. I am quite used to the world telling me I am worthless. I'm just trying to survive it until I can finally escape it.

Sort:

And HuffPo ... who used to crow about how they never paid their "contributors" was sold for $315 million to AOL. Arianna Huffington didn't write all that content, but she banked every bit of the money.

Mark Zuckerberg literally used the word "dumbfucks" to describe his contempt for his early adopters.

STINC put those hideous ads on our blog pages -- without asking, AFAIC -- yes, it's their virtual real estate, they can do WTF they like with it. But then they laughed at the very idea they might share some of the proceeds with their users.

Yeah, I really get off on spending two hours or more creating something from my talent to stick under their online casino ad. So I've stopped doing it.

@dreemsteem is right. And I may not be here long either.

As they say ... "People die of 'exposure.'"

Oh Gods HuffPo made me so mad when I found out they didn't pay their writers. Just...

Instinctively, I understood pretty early that this platform would never provide enough reward to be an inviting place for serious authors, whether the reward came in the form of money or readership. But the blockchain is solid, and in the case of a closed reward loop like Steemhouse is working on, we don't need the common reward pool in quite the same way as we would otherwise. Plus, our idea is portable. If things head too far south, we can pack up and go, too. For now we're staying put, though, with pretty low expectations about most aspects of the Steem ecosystem, but some realistic ideas about how to make it work for us. Time will tell. Time will also tell if we continue to draw mainstream attention to the Steem blockchain with the name of our project. We'll just have to see.

Where can I find out more about Steemhouse? I've seen that name twice in the past couple of days but hadn't heard of it before that.

This is our latest post: https://steemit.com/steemhousepub/@steemhousepub/real-world-publishing-meets-the-blockchain

It has some fairly specific information about our goals.

That meme had me DYING laughing 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

You're not worthless. Believing that just allows people to take advantage more.

Keep good company and keep infecting them with laughter hehehe

😊

See? Meme sharing gives laughter. It has value. :D

Heck yeah it does. Lololol

And laughter is the best medicine hehe

I once made a friend laugh so hard, her lung collapsed and she had to go to hospital.
I felt incredibly guilty.
But not guilty enough that I did not send her a get well card that said "laughter is the best medicine."
Because I am evil. >.>

Evil would be not sending her a card at all.

You are not evil

You are just twisted. 😜

I am that! LOL

Birds of a feather! 🙃
