Alexander the Great, also known as Alexander III of Macedon, was one of history’s most brilliant military leaders and conquerors. He was born in 356 BCE in Pella, the ancient capital of Macedonia. His father, King Philip II, united the Greek city-states under Macedonian rule, and his mother, Olympias, was a strong influence in his life. From a young age, Alexander showed great intelligence and courage. He was tutored by the famous philosopher Aristotle, who inspired his love for it .

At the age of 20, Alexander became king after the assassination of his father. He quickly set out to fulfill his father’s dream of conquering the Persian Empire. Within a few years, Alexander had defeated the mighty Persian army led by King Darius III and taken control of Asia Minor, Egypt, and Mesopotamia. His most famous battle was the Battle of Gaugamela in 331 BCE, which marked the downfall of the Persian Empire.

Despite his great achievements, Alexander died young at the age of 32 in 323 BCE in Babylon. The cause of his death remains a mystery, though theories include fever, poisoning, or exhaustion. After his death, his empire was divided among his generals, but his legacy lived on.
