The Excavator’s Work is Done! - September 6, 2019 @goldenoakfarm
Well, the day has finally arrived! The foundation and grading/excavation work is done! My husband set up his work area Friday morning and cut the first lumber, the sills, and put some in.
He said that’s the first time he’s had the belt on since 2014.
He was supposed to finish the cleaning at the barn, but “forgot”… He was so amp’d up to get started. He did go up and do it later.
The gravel is done in the cellar
The grading is finished on the northeast side
My husband went and got the first of the cabinets. These are for the pantry, laundry, and office. They went into the storage unit.
They seeded using the 100# of pasture mix we bought. We thought there was far more than we needed for all of it, but they used it up just on the pasture. They brought in their “contractor’s mix” to do the yard. Then they started spreading chopped straw.
A tour of the finished work, going counterclockwise around the house from the driveway:
North and northeast with little Kousa dogwood
North between the house and garden shed
The drainfield was unmulched as we’ve decided it will be covered in wildflowers. I’ve ordered wildflower mix from Fedco.
The drainfield, the mulched areas will be grass.
The southwest side, along the South Herb garden
And back to the driveway, with the walkway and northwest corner of the New Herb garden
Now the fun begins!
