If encouraging ground feeding, and finding you can't put them on any area they weren't on in the last 30 days (or other chickens), feeding pumpkin seeds or another dewormer food would be a good idea. (Tip from Joel Salatin...)

No they can't detect parasites. They eat where there is food. If it happens to be where chickens were previously, they will pick up parasites with the food.

Oh, okay. So you're meaning as a prevention effort. That makes sense.

I think I remembered Joel saying something about if there's poo on the eggs, they have worms? Do you remember that bit?

No, never heard that one. Mostly if there's manure on eggs, it's because the nestboxes are dirty or they are laying in a dirty place.
