RE: Super Human by Dave Asprey — Book Review and Summary of Dave's Bulletproof Plan to Age Backward!
When I see messages like this one, I am torn in different directions.
First of all, I also consider a positive frame of mind extremely important in helping us keep good health and for extending our lives.
However, having lived among animals, wild, farm and pets, I have seen that they have a set period which is natural to their species and they age and become infirm. Of course, in wild animals there are very few that make it to old age as their slowed reactions makes them the perfect prey. (The only animal we see achieving old age in the wild is the elephant, but that is because of size plus the fact that their groups are families and they are protected). It also helps that there are no old-age homes for elephants :)
Pets that are loved and not fed factory made foods, are free to run and be a part of nature, yes, they do live longer. Maybe their owners think it is because their pets feel loved, but I see it as only a small part of the reason. Still, however well cared for and loved, I do not know of any dog or cat that has lived to the ripe old age of 50 years.
The reasons for achieving old age above a hundred are varied. A number of them, especially in villages, is because they are not stressed out by a society that only respects success...and becsuse they smoke or they drink and so on. They seem to contradict our theories, and yet, I have met a number of elderly people of above 100 who smoke and drink alcohol. The difference between them and us is that they live a balanced life. None are vegeterians and yet, most of them only eat meat twice a week and fish when they can afford it (about once a week to a fortnight).
What I am trying to say is, we each know ourselves better than anyone else does and we should examine ourselves and try to work out what keeps us feeling positive and healthy. If that includes a small glass of wine with the meal, then do so - but make certain your meals are mainly natural and not prepared in factories. I have not met anyone who eats factory made food who had passed his hundredth year.
A side step in this argument of mine: Those who hate do not live longer, it is those who love and are comfortable with loving and trusting people, not allowing the few dishonest ones to make them bitter, who have a reason to live longer - and they often do.
