Union klebt einfach =/= Union became quite sticky
Was mir be unserem letzten Aufenthalt in der deutschen Hauptsstadt besonders aufgefallen war, waren die vielen rot-weißen Aufkleber, mit denen die sogenannten Fans des Berliner Fußball-Bundesligisten 1. FC Union Berlin ihre Stadt verschönert haben. Insbesondere im Osten der Hauptstadt sieht man diese Aufkleber allerorten kleben, und diese gibt es in den verschiedensten Varianten und Formen. Die Menschen haben also auch diesbezüglich eine ganze Menge an Fantasie, um ihre Sympathie und Liebe für ihren Lieblingsfußballverein auszudrücken.
Nach dem Motto "Schöner unsere Städte und Gemeinden" hat hier auf jeden Fall keiner gehandelt, denn auch wenn Berlin bisher ja auch nicht unbedingt ein Hort der Schönheit und Sauberkeit war, haben es dieses vielen kleinen Aufkleber doch geschafft, die Stadt noch ein wenig schmuddeliger wirken zu lassen. Aber das war den Helden, die diese Aufkleber teils an abenteuerlichen Orten angebracht haben, mit Sicherheit nicht bewusst, und sie suhlen sich auch heute noch im Glanze ihrer Heldentaten.
Nun ja, ich bin mir sicher, dass dies nicht nur ein Phänomen im Osten Berlins ist, denn auch im Westteil der Stadt habe ich an einigen Stellen unzählige Aufkleber entdeckt, welche dort aber in Blau-Weiß daherkamen und dem anderen großen Team der Stadt, Hertha BSC huldigen sollten. Und in anderen Städten wird das wohl ganz genau so vor sich gehen, die lokalen Fußballanhänger pflastern ihre Stadt mit Stickers ihres Lieblingsteam zu und sorgen gleichzeitig dafür, dass bei anderen Bürgern das Thema Fußball immer unbeliebter wird. Und dann wundert man sich, wie es dazu kommen konnte.
Ich bin eigentlich dem FC Union ziemlich herzlich verbunden, und war als junger Mensch viele Male dort im Stadion und habe meine damaligen Fußballhelden angefeuert, Aber mittlerweise habe ich ein wenig Abstand gewonne und sehe den ganzen Rausch um Union oder wen auch immer mit ganz anderen Augen. Ob es sich dabei um Altersweisheit oder Altersmüdigkeit handelt, bin ich mir selber nicht ganz sicher. Aber auch wenn einige der Aufkleber wirklich gut geworden sind, möchte ich sie dann doch nicht überall zu kleben haben. Vielleicht bin ich ja hier auch nur ein einsamer Rufer im Wald und die Mehtheit der Bevölkerung erfreut sich an dieser bunten Stadtgestaltung. Wundern würde mich das auch nicht, aber ich erfreue mich lieber an etwas anderem.
Aber wie auch immer: Dem FC Union wünsche ich für diese Saison trotzdem alles Gute und hoffe, dass man besser abschneiden wird als im letzten Jahr. Alles Gute aus dem Fernen Osten und ich verbleibe mit einem lauten:

What particularly caught my eye during our last stay in the German capital were the many red and white stickers with which the so-called fans of the Berlin Bundesliga football team 1. FC Union Berlin have embellished their city. You can see these stickers everywhere, especially in the eastern part of the capital, and they come in a wide variety of shapes and forms. People have a lot of imagination when it comes to expressing their sympathy and love for their favorite football club.
In any case, the reason for all those stickers was surely not to make our cities and communities more beautiful. I know Berlin wasn't necessarily a haven of beauty and cleanliness in the past, all those little stickers have managed to make the city look even more grungier. But the heroes who placed these stickers, sometimes in quite adventurous places, were certainly not aware of this, and they are still basking in the glory of their heroic deeds today.
Well, I'm sure that this isn't just a phenomenon in the east of Berlin, because I also discovered countless stickers in some places in the western part of the city, but they were in blue and white and were intended to pay homage to the city's other big team, Hertha BSC. And in other cities it will probably look exactly the same. The local football fans plaster their city with stickers of their favorite team and at the same time make sure that the topic of football becomes increasingly unpopular with other residents. And then people wonder how it could come to this point.
I'm actually quite attached to FC Union, and as a young person I went to the stadium many times and cheered on my football heroes of the time, but now I've gained a little distance and see the whole frenzy surrounding Union or other teams with completely different eyes. I'm not quite sure myself whether this is due to old age wisdom or old age fatigue. But even if some of the stickers are really good, I don't want them everywhere. Maybe I'm just a lone voice in the forest and the majority of the population is enjoying this colorful urban design. That wouldn't surprise me either, but I'd rather enjoy something else.
But anyway: I wish FC Union all the best for this season and hope that they will do better than last year. All the best from the Far East and I remain with a loud:
