As we journey in our christian faith just as the children of Israel did to Canaan, discouragements are inevitable on the way.No matter how we are highly placed, every Christian is bound to experience discouragement. If you have not come to a point where you ask God "why me" you have not started the race yet. God only promised us safe arrival but not smooth sail.

In psalm 34:19, David, a man who experienced several heart rending problems stated that "Many are the afflictions of the righteous but the lord delivereth them from all". In james 1:2, we are enjoined to count it as joy when we fall into various trials. Paul and Silas were imprisoned but their faith was not deterred and they were set free by divine intervention when they praised God in chains.

In gethsemane, the son of God became discouraged because of the looming shameful death. He prayed to the extent that the sweat from His body was dripping like blood. At the nadir of depression, he asked God to take the cup of death from Him. However, His prayer for God's will to prevail made him survive the agonizing pain of the cross. In life, there are so many circumstances that will discourage us. The Israelite were promised a land flowing with milk and honey but they could not understand why they had to encounter devastating hunger, unbearable, thirst and unimaginable hostility on their journey.

As Christians, we wonder at times why God permits us to pass through trials, difficulties and affliction. the challenges we go through are aimed at building godly character in us and preparing us for greater responsibility. After experiencing great victory over the prophet of Baal, Elijah was threatened by Jezebel and he ran for his dear life. He was so lonely and discouraged that he considered death as a good option. God reassured him that he was in control of his situation and then that there were 7,000 prophets who were still standing for him.

God is faithful to make us overcome when we face difficulties. If Joseph had not gone through the heartbreak of being sold into slavery by his brothers, he would not have become the prime minister of Egypt.

In spite of what biblical heroes have gone through, God accomplished more than what was naturally possible in their lives. Who knows what He is working out in your life? Dear friend, you are not alone in the situation you are going through .
