DIY Urban Gardening - New Aquaponics System for Our Lanai - Honolulu Hawaii
We ordered this PVC system from Amazon for $130.00. We know we could have built it from pieces but we wanted a complete system to try and if it works we can duplicate it on our own. We ordered it a month ago but never had a chance to put it together.
Since we had to stay home to wait for the plumber to come to clear the main line clog. This kit was well packaged and hard all the pieces. Everything fit together well and we put it together easily.
We did have two problems which were entirely our fault. The instructions were a one pager and showed how everything fit together. The thing was that there were a lot of parts and the only way to tell the difference was that the diagrams had the lengths in millimeters. The problem is we did not have anything to measure the pieces in our tool box. We had to pull the tape measure from our sewing kit. We took some time to sort all the pieces and we still made mistakes putting the pieces together but that was entirely our fault.
The second problem we had was that we couldn't find one small PVC piece so we ended up cutting the drain tube to make it. We thought it was short shipped but we just didn't look well enough and found it after we cut the drain tube.
We put it all together on our lanai and loaded it up with water. We are letting it run to break it in. We added the nutrients to the water.
We also planted our seedling so hopefully we will have them planted in the Aquaponics System in 5-7 days.
@hawaiialoha that looks like a big setup for the price, good on you for finding it. I look forward to seeing it progress.
Thanks for the comment. We will post the progress.
Looks like a decent set up. Let us know how you get on with it.
Will do. I can't wait for my seeds to sprout.
