Dog day at the beach

in #dogs2 months ago

It was a early morning again yesterday and I had heard some rumblings, both on an app and in the sky, that we had a rainstorm coming in that was going to last for a few days. I do not allow Nadi (my dog) outside when it is raining or even if the street is wet so we needed to take advantage of this time while we could.

She was also showing sings of early-onset-stink so since she was bathtub bound soon anyway, it is always a good idea to combine these things when we can.

She does this thing when we get down to the sand where she ventures extenesively in all directions sniffing and sniffing. It's like there are so many scents down here that she doesn't really know what to do with herself and is just overwhelmed. But she really gets excited if there is some sort of pool that has been formed from the changes of the tides, near the shore. Because waves scare her, she doesn't actually like to get into the sea, but she is just fine with these pools.

She starts out galloping down them because she doesn't really have any idea how deep they are but she just chances it and it is really cute to see her become so active in these pools. She jumps and run and sometimes looses her footing or misjudges how deep something is that then spills. She always get back up, does a shake, then maybe rams her head into the sand for some reason and just spends a ton of time in there.

I'm not really thrilled about the little bubble specks that are floating in this water, but I think that is just from the water not going in or out of this pool very quick. I don't think it is some sort of horrible pollution but given where I live and this country's track record with pollution, I suppose that is always a possibility.

I do like, and if you look at the last picture you can share in this, that there isn't a single other person in the picture above. We had the entire beach to ourselves to frolic in. There was another dog that came by and tried to play with Nadi and something amazing happened: Nadi doesn't like to play with other dogs but after a while I wandering around she didn't seem to mind that he was there. She still didn't play with him, but then after a while he left and she just spent a bunch of time staring in the direction of where he went, almost like she really wanted him to come back.

Nadi is an old dog, so I think her friend'making days are behind us, but there is always a chance.

This time when we got back to the house she was too dirty to allow to walk on the floor so I took off my own shirt and put her in it and then just kind of hoped that we wouldn't have to share the elevator with anyone because shirtless men carrying a wet dog isn't something that is extremely common in our elevators!

She took the bath like a champion, never complained. And then I went out to breakfast and took her with me. She is such a good dog, always just sits there and looks at me while I am eating. She doesn't beg, but she does expect to receive something and always does.

Right now the weather is no good for taking dogs out for walks and if the sky stays overcast the way that it is now there is a very good chance that she will spend the entire day indoors. Right now she smells good and she already knows how to use the indoor pee pads so I guess we may just have to find a way to play with her inside toys to keep her entertained. At the moment she is sitting in a chair behind me next to the window (she has a view!) and she has gone back to sleep. I guess it is easy to understand why she would be so tired today, she did wake up and eat and that's all!

Sort:

My dog used to chew everything in sight after a beach trip, especially when overexcited. Giving him an antler for dogs helped a lot—it kept him busy and calmed him down after all the running around. They're tough enough to last a while and don’t leave a mess like some other chews.

it's funny because some dogs are totally fine with it and love it. I guess my dog's small size contributes to this because while I see the waves as small, they are taller than she is and if I put that into perspective I would be afraid of that as well.
