More puppies!

in #dogs2 days ago

I think almost everyone loves puppies right? Well we got a call from a villager about a mama who had a rather large litter and we were called in to help. We are a bit disappointed that the people who called us in were kind of expecting us to take the dogs away though, that didn't make us happy at all. We informed them that we cannot do that, but will help them as much as they can if they allow us to sterilize the mother and do the same to the female young once they are old enough.

Right now these pups are at the age where they haven't even fully opened their eyes yet and the only thing they do is sleep and then craw around looking for mama's milk. They do squeak and make cute doggy sounds and of course, if you pick them up they fall asleep immediately. None of them are capable of doing very much at the moment and thankfully all of them are in good health, as is the mother.

We spoke to the people who lived here for a bit to ask some questions about how many dogs there are in the area and other things like that and the answer was that there are not very many, but there is now! This kind of showcases how fast a population of dogs can grow. This mama dog will be able to have another litter of pups in as little as 5 months from now and at that point her young won't even yet be fully capable of taking care of themselves.

We scooped up the entire family and put them in our truck to take them into the vet's office to make sure everyone is ok and we will also get the mother sterilized while we are there. The pups? well the only thing we can do for them right now is let the people at the farm know that we will support them with food donations when we can but that they are going to have to work with us on this one. We do not have unlimited resources, far from it in fact.

Mom wasn't too pleased about us briefly separating her from her babies, but we reassured her the entire time and never kept them far apart from each-other, this was just long enough to get the pups loaded into the car because, and this was kind of funny, the mother would jump in and out of the car any time all of her pups were not immediately with her. A dog mama's love is something else isn't it?

We reminded the human parents that we will only be gone for a few days and that unfortunately we do not have the capability to look after these animals for them. We looked around and saw a few things that we can do for them though, such as providing bedding for the mama and pups even though they are definitely "outside doggies." This is ok though, dogs that have always lived outside do not feel bad about having to do so. In fact, they prefer it! In times in the past we have taken outside doggos and tried to get them to adapt to being indoors and they will just stand at the windows and bark.

Right now we have our fingers crossed that this family will understand that we are not an organization that you can call because you don't want your pets anymore, we would love to be able to do that but we simply do not have the resources. We are happy that they were able to find us to help but our purpose is to eliminate these sorts of situations from happening. We can only hope that the family will in fact look after the pups and mum and then perhaps learn over the course of a few years about why it is so important to have your animals sterilized in the first place.

In the meantime, these 6 wonderful little babies are cuteness overload.
