Movie Review - Chhutir Ghonta - Classic Bengali Movie
Chhutir Ghonta (1980) is a movie directed by Azizur Rahman, which is a tragic family drama starring Razzak and Shabana.

Brief Story
Khokon a talented teen student who was about to go to his grandparents' house during the Eid vacation. But for the carelessness of a loved one, he had to give his life. The man who was mistakenly indirectly involved in the death of Khokon blamed himself and was sentenced to life.
My Thoughts
Story
The movie was based on a true story. I like this movie a lot. Theme, dialogue, and acting were fantastic. A few dialogues were philosophical which show us the reality. One of them was,
Now I know, money couldn’t be eaten.
Showing the reality that at some point, money can not help you. There were some boring points. The story was short and the director made a 140-minute-long movie. That is why, he had to include some unnecessary scenes.
Script
The story was unique and based on true events. The script was strong. Razzak is known as the King of Bangladeshi actors and Shabana is an iconic name of Bangladesh. Sumon, who played the central role of a teen boy was fantastic on screen. It means that, acting was top-notch.
Direction
The direction was good. But, at some point, he could have made it better. There were some unnecessary scenes. If these were not in the movie, it would be tighter.
Music
The music of this movie was fantastic. Even now, after 45 years, the title song, Ekdin Chuti Hobe still alive. It still makes us emotional. Amader Deshta Shwapnopuri is still the iconic child song of Bangladesh.
Conclusion
Some romantic dialogue between Abbas Miah (Razzak) and Anguri (Shabana) was not necessary. The role of Anguri's father could have been ignored. Inclusion of Jewel Aich was a great cameo.
Chhutir Ghonta is an old Bengali movie. It is a cult classic. At that time, movies used to be 180 minutes long. That is why the director had to include a lot of unnecessary scenes. At the time of Black & White, this was an evergreen movie.

When I saw the title and photo, I thought of Bollywood. Very colorful, very flashy. For us Europeans, often exaggerated on an emotional level and rather simplistic. Mind you, I'm talking about mass production. There are some outstanding exceptions that I really appreciate... And now I see: Bangladesh. And black and white. An interesting journey into the past ;-)) Here, too, films only became colourful in the 1960s; there are quite a few classics from before that time that you can still watch today...
Bangladesh had a magnificent past of making classic movies. Some of them are still meaningful. I am planning to review them. Thank you.
