The school
What happened along the line?
No one knows. I don't even know.
We used to be so excited about going to school. I'll admit not in the first two years of starting school (creche; kindergarten); we'd definitely cry wail our lungs out grabbing onto the hem of our parents clothes.
But as time goes on, we learnt to adjust and adapt. We were excited to meet our friends and learn new things.
But as time goes on too, we didn't know when the competition started. Every student in the school wants to be the best and top the class. It is a good thing; but at the same time we aren't taking note of the pressure that was coming on.
Pressure from peers.
Unintended pressure from teachers.
And sometimes pressure from parents too.
Pressure leading to unpleasant thoughts of students against each other. Friendships from the younger days would go sour at a point where no one seemed to pay attention. All because of wanting to be the best in school.
We were supposed to be learning to know more. Of course the school would play its part in dishing out its lessons, regardless of what's going on around it.
Wouldn't it be better if we didn't loose focus and virtue while in school?
Wouldn't it pay more to gain more knowledge, but still maintain the harmonious environment.
Of course, I'm likening this to reality. Life is like a school. Life is school, where learning never ends; and where competition never seem to stop.
Innocent during our younger years, but this innocence seem to have been lost while growing up. As long as we live, we learn everyday, but struggle to be best among our mates gradually robs off the virtues while putting all we should be learning to waste.
