Riding for Sean | Arthur Morgan's Untold Adventures, Part 15

Trelawny had told us that Sean, one of our gang members, had been captured by some bounty hunters over in Blackwater, and they were getting ready to move him somewhere else soon. As soon as Dutch heard the news, he sent Javier and Charles to scout around Blackwater and figure out exactly where Sean was being held. Once they had a better idea, we could come up with a plan to bust him out.

Since I was still banged up from my fight with Tommy, Dutch told me to rest up a bit and then head out later. As for Bill, Dutch did not send him at all. Probably still sore about the bar fight Bill stirred up. Guess it was Dutch’s way of showing he was not happy with him.

Javier and Charles were lying low on a ridge, staring down at Blackwater. Place was crawling, lawmen everywhere you looked. I slid down next to them, getting settled on the rough ground. Gave them a quick “Hey,” and Charles nodded back.

I asked about Trelawny, and Charles said he was not sure. Trelawny was supposed to be digging around, trying to find out. I asked if anyone had gone down into Blackwater for a proper look, but Javier said it was no good. Pinkertons and bounty hunters were crawling everywhere, with posters of Dutch and Hosea plastered all over town.

I took Charles’ binoculars and had a look myself. Blackwater looked worse than I expected. I wondered why they had not just hanged Sean already. Charles figured they were keeping him alive for a reason. Maybe bait. Maybe for some public trial nonsense. I handed the binoculars back, feeling that pit settle deeper in my stomach.

Right then, Trelawny came sneaking up behind us, wearing that half-smirk he always did. He said Sean was being moved upriver along the Upper Montana, then out west to some federal prison. Damn it. If they got him there, we had no chance. It had to be now...

We sent Charles ahead with a plan to provide us covering fire if things got out of control. Me and Javier then rushed back to the horses. Trelawny caught up, riding close. We rode down toward the river, looking for the boat they were moving Sean on. Javier kept warning us to stay alert.

As we rode, Trelawny rambled on about how we did not even have the money (We left in Blackwater) yet. I told him Dutch and Hosea said they knew where it was, but there was not a thing we could do about it right now. Trelawny chuckled, saying his parents would have sold him for a barrel of ale.

I spotted a boat down by the river and pointed it out. Trelawny picked up the lead, telling us to follow. We stayed high along the cliffs, trailing them from a distance. He warned us to keep our guns holstered until we were sure it was Sean. Act natural, he said, and we would be fine.

We kept riding and followed that boat. The boat eventually stopped. Trelawny told us to get our binoculars. I raised mine and saw a figure being dragged off the boat, bag over his head. Javier asked if it was Sean. I said it looked like him.

We spotted Charles across the valley, giving us the signal. Time to move.

Javier asked what about the two guards by the river. Trelawny said he had a plan. Told us to follow him.

We eased down to the river. Javier and I slid off our horses, crouching low. Trelawny rode toward the bounty hunters, hollering about his wife being sick. He laid it on thick, stumbling and wailing. One of the guards shouted back, asking what was wrong.

Trelawny ranted about his poor sick wife. Javier nodded toward the left one, whispering I should take him. Time to move.

While Trelawny kept the act up, Javier and I crept closer. We took the guards out quick and quiet. Trelawny brushed himself off like nothing had happened and tipped his hat before slipping off again.

Javier and I pushed forward, taking cover behind rocks. We spotted two more halfway up the canyon. They were chatting away, not a care in the world. We took them out too.

But it was not going to stay quiet and we were in a gunfight.

After the shooting settled, we caught up with Charles. No time to breathe, though. Two more bounty hunters came at us. We gunned them down before they got close.

Charles pointed ahead. “Their camp is up this way. Come on.”

We crossed a dirt road leading toward it. Javier split left, Charles to the right, and I followed behind. We could already hear voices.

Another firefight broke out. I cursed under my breath. Felt like a whole army waited for us. I wondered how big Sean’s bounty must be to stir up this much trouble.

When things settled down, I heard a familiar voice. Sean. His feet were tied, and he was hanging upside down from a tree.

We hurried over. Sean barked at me to cut him loose, griping about his head pounding. I finally cut the ropes and set him free.

Turning to the others, I laid out the plan. Javier would escort Sean back to camp, and Charles would ride separate to avoid drawing too much attention. Patrols were crawling all over the place, and we needed to stay sharp.

Javier asked about me, and I told him I’d stick around a bit longer, see if there was anything worth taking, and then meet them back at camp. I watched them ride off, their voices fading with the wind.

By the time I reached camp, it was dark. Everyone seemed to be waiting. Dutch was so happy he could hardly contain himself. He patted me on the back and said tonight there would be a party...

Disclaimer

Arthur Morgan and the world of Red Dead Redemption 2 might be fictional creations by Rockstar Games, but my love for this game? 100% real. This is a new kind of adventure I wanted to bring to Steemit. I’m narrating the story of RDR2 from the perspective of its protagonist, Arthur Morgan, offering a fresh and immersive take on his journey. Rather than directly copying the game’s dialogues, I’m weaving Arthur’s emotions and experiences into a creative and fictional retelling. You can also experience this story in a cinematic way. I play the game, record my gameplay, edit the footage in the best possible way, and upload it to my YouTube channel. This way, after reading each story episode, you can watch it unfold like a movie.
