YouTube Bans Set To Rise - Time for dTube to reach out

in #dtube7 years ago

Hey Steemians and dTubers

It looks like old YouTube is at it again like damn daniel and slapping the cuffs on more accounts as they look to weed out anything that was begun to touch a nerve with their audience. For the most part I feel that their guidelines aren't too bad and they do make sense in terms of improving the quality of content and the experience of users on the site.

However, I can almost guarantee this will bring forth gray areas where YouTubers will get burned and banned. Since these violations are reviewed by a team of moderators that are in fact bias as we all can see with past YouTube bans I'm pretty sure some channels will get struck soon enough.

The policy will be seen as a warning to those who tend to strike a cord with their content and the narratives they put out. So how will YouTube begin to ring fence its creators?

Let's dive in and see shall we?

YouTube announced it is strengthening enforcement of its community guidelines to protect users from people who abuse the platform. The company says it is ramping up its efforts in response to so called community feedback or it could be so called cry babies.

The 3 key areas that will now be under the watchful eye of big brother YouTUbe are:

Custom Thumbnails

YouTube will now issue a strike for custom thumbnails that egregiously violate policies, even if the video itself does not violate any policies.

An egregious violation refers to thumbnails containing adult material or graphic violence. Channels that receive more than one strike will lose their ability to use custom thumbnails.

Three strikes in 90 days will result in account termination.

External Links

YouTube will now issue strikes for adding external links to sites that egregiously violate policies. An egregious violation refers to links to sites that contain adult content, malware, or spam.

Receiving three strikes in 90 days will result in account termination.

Dangerous Challenges and Pranks

YouTube reminds users that videos encouraging dangerous challenges and pranks are a violation of its community guidelines.

“We’ve updated our external guidelines to make it clear that we prohibit challenges presenting a risk of serious danger or death, and pranks that make victims believe they’re in serious physical danger, or cause children to experience severe emotional distress.”

The company is likely issuing this reminder in response to the recent “Bird Box” challenge videos, where people attempt to engage in daily activities while blindfolded.

Enforcement of These Policies

YouTube is giving users a “grace period” in order to allow time for making changes to content if needed.

For the next two months, content that violates YouTube’s community guidelines related to custom thumbnails, external links, challenges, and pranks will be removed but the channel will not receive a strike per say

Is it YouTube or TheirTube?

What was once a community platform for expression has slowly turned into the mainstream media with content being curated and echo chambers for certain narratives being pushed over others.

Content creators are being silenced and many incidents of petty strikes, bans and demonetisation have let many YouTubers frustrated. Some have left, some have given up while others have began to conform.

Once of the saving graces were for larger channels who were able to get support via Patreon, but this isn't always viable for smaller channels.

The great migration

The more guidelines the more YouTubers will violate this and some will simply be honest mistakes or simply want to get their message out there regardless of how its done.

As these YouTube accounts are weeded out of the system shouldn't it be wise for @dtube to step in and save them?

After seeing what @partiko had done by saving Tumblr accounts would it not be great if dTube tried the same thing.

Letting YouTubers under threat know they can migrate their channel to dTube and preserve their content without any censorship and continue to create content without having to adhere to every rule YouTube keeps putting out?

Have your say

What do you think of YouTube's rules? Is it a good or bad thing? Is banning people too harsh? Is dTUbe ready to seize this opportunity?
