I absolutely agree with you!
Hurting any emotional feeling lifeform (animals, human for my current knowledge) in any kind of way (physically/mentally) should be punished (is that the right word?) by the law.
This topic is extremely important for our society and is way to late in the discussion.
I agree with you too, @tibfox - it was incredible to me to hear folks yesterday openly stating that it is 'mental' to even think about banning smacking of children, and the other classic mantra of 'I was smacked, and it did ME no harm' - well, really... ?! What would a numb person know about what their loss of sentience is? But this is the epitome of modern culture: numb, blind folks crashing about in the world, and often making decisions for the rest of us sentient, conscious beings! Oh, life!
