RE: DTube Talks | My Personal Message To DTube And Heimindanger | New DTube Curation Update

in #dtubetalks7 years ago

I think those changes are necessary and absolutely right.
Some @dtubers are big @dtubers only because of the big @dtube upvotes. If you produce great content, then you should get money from the community as well, not from the platform alone. If you don't get money from the community - well, maybe your content isn't that great then.

I am not refering to a particular person - However if anyone stops making videos because he now earns significantly less, than I wouldn't consider that to be a big loss. If you make good content, the community on here tends to make it attractive enough to stay.

@theaustrianguy I see your point but DTube itself is one of the biggest curators on this platform. Upvotes are almost the only way to monetize here.. How can people like myself who dedicated themselves to this platform, who went full time, who invested thousands of dollars from SBD into equipment, who try to get better every single day on their videos.. How can we now monetize when one of the biggest curators are reducing their votes?

Honestly, please show me the numerous amounts of people in the community who have enough influence to support creators and help them make a living? Most steem power has been delegated to various bots now. It's hard now. You know, we have to make a living too. It's the same problem Youtube is experiencing now. Youtube took away monetization from the little guys. Now they are struggling to find a way to make a living after dedicating their entire career to the platform!

DTube will stay the biggest curator and the upvotes will be big enough to have enough money I suppose - But if you just depend on the upvotes from one source, it is always dangerous. Maybe this can serve as a little wakeup-call for some people to get better in order to receive votes from more people. There are still a lot of manual curators out there who have enough SP ;)

I've been saying this since I started on Dtube back in February if I remember correctly. While I dont depend on this as my full time job I have also invested a ton of my own money into the equipment and software needed to make my videos. I have received maybe 2 Dtube up votes total which weren't very high compared to what they can upvote now. We cant all rely and fight for the Dtube upvote that's just not sustainable. We need to make sure that the best videos made are the ones that rise to the top and it also depends on us. Bid bots are an issue for sure and I dont know how to fix that, maybe someone can come up with an idea but until then its up to us to upvote the good content and the content of quality. I put in alot of work into my videos and some get nothing at all. At the same time we do need to make changes that will allow us to monetize our videos outside of just the up votes. I actually talk about this in the video I posted today.

I agree with you 110%. You aren't wrong. Unfortunately we are at this point where unless we all get a lot of steem power, our votes just won't be as impactful yet. We have to keep working towards it. I also just followed you and looked over your page real quick, loving what I saw so far. Will be diving in more soon!

Agreed! The platform is still so young compared to other platforms. There are growing pains and changes and things may take a while to get to a point where those who make great content at high quality will prevail but until then we just have to do everything we can to make it. That's part of the pains when dealing with a new platform and being early adopters. Just like the early days of YouTube before they started monetizing for creators. Just like Casey Neistat he didn't monetize his first 100 million views. I definitely think instead of a view counter maybe a time watched counter for our channels would be great to help attract potential sponsors and investors. In the mean time I appreciate the follow and your support. I'm a fan of your work too. We both seem to want to make the same types of videos and are inspired by some of the same people. I'm in LA and I know your in NY but if you ever in town hit me up!

I have always felt as if we needed more diversity in upvotes. Unfortunately it just seems as if things have stayed the same.

I was super fortunate to be supported by two whales from early on. I always tried to keep going, to try and get the attention of more and more people. It seemed to plateau there. I was increasing my effort, and my investment of time and money but the results stayed the same.

I just hope that the system fixes itself soon. That fans actually can support creators.

True - Wrote you a message in Discord ;)

well i got upvoted from dtube 1 or 2 times, and i think my videos are decent. certainly know how much effort is invested in them.
