Earth-Bag Earthship part 1.........

in #earthbag8 years ago (edited)

the title says it all and yes earth-bag earthship, not sure if you are aware of what that is exactly, but it is a combination of earthbag building with earthship building, does that sound confusing and complicated not at all, I have spent long hrs figuring this out and trying to design a house that will merge the two building forms together,

to start off I will be using 14" X 26" sand bags to create the earthbag walls part of the house, now normally the bags would be filled and stacked long ways to get roughly a 14 ish inch wall however I am going against the norm and will be stacking the bags short ways where I will be getting a 24 ish inch wall ( yes I will try to be uniform and get as close to 24" as possible) but it can be and exact size with using sand bags and dirt, I will have rebar and a spiked plywood ( a probably 10" piece of plywood with 16 penny nails hammered thru both sides) holding the sand bags levels together and firm. with the back wall roughly 8' and the front wall 12' tall.Earthbag.jpg picture IS NOT mine I am using it for reference only and take no ownership of the picture

ok this is getting a little long in the tooth so I think I will make this part 1. join in (probably) tomorrow for part 2

Great- I've always wanted to try building an earth bag house.

oh wow. this was exactly my idea! glad to see this l-)
ive been building earthships for 10 years now and recently got into Earthbag. Now i see the great benefit of combining them. Tyre foundation, maybe going up a few feet and then earthbags to finish. I love the idea of Earthbag roof's that are round.. This REALLY helps to reduce the build cost and time!
