As for the "self-sufficiency-farming"; my father, growing up on the farm, during the 1930s depression, told me not everyone could survive as a farmer. He explained the obvious hardships of farming. If droughts, crop failure, etc... are not tough enough, Real Farmers must butcher their pigs, cattle & chickens, as well. It is not an easy way of life.
