RE: Finding an Educational Paradigm that Works for your Family

in #ecotrain7 years ago

Epic article, a labor of love!
Forgot who said it, but:
"People and companies must be allowed to fail, that´s how we get better."
I don´t know what it is nowadays with school, but all of my friends in Germany who have children, experienced some kind of drama, some of them multiple dramas, with school.
I guess this is first of all because all of my friends are of course kind of anti-establishment, "leftish" who don´t really believe in the mandatory school system in Germany, but they also didn´t have the energy and/or resources to find an alternative school for their kids.
With me it was the total opposite in school.
I was the first one in my family for generations to go to Gymnasium (kind of German highschool) and I was good in school without having to work for it, so I had a great time in school.
For me the shock came later, when I realized that if I don´t save my money I will have to work all my life, essentially being a slave to the system.
So saving money, to be able to buy me time, became very important to me. That´s something I learned from my parents, not in school though.

Thank you! It's yet another topic I'm super passionate about. Almost every parent I know - hell, half the teachers I know - are absolutely fed up with the modern system. It's a total and complete disaster. It's doing what it was designed to do, but we just don't need or want that anymore, and they keep wanting to add more hours and tests and less play and arts because they're totally mad.
I was like you. I did really well, mostly without trying. By my fourth year at university, I knew it was a total sham shit show, but my parents had a lot invested at that point, so I finished that last year. It was a total waste. I've never used my degree. Massive debt for nothing. And when I got out, I had no clue who I was or what I wanted. Luckily, like you, my parents also taught me good money skills. Otherwise we would have starved by now. I just refuse to sell off my limited time with my kids for some kind of bullshit job. Would have been nice if Steemit was around 20 years ago.
