RE: Finding an Educational Paradigm that Works for your Family
"Twat waffle brat" is too funny. I'm so glad she got at least partially rehabilitated! No one wants to go through life like that.
I am a college French prof at a relatively prestigious school where there are so many students who cannot function in the world. It is sad and pitiful.
I let my son be bored as often as I can - and what's interesting is he's 5 and I've only ever heard him say he's bored a handful of times. Part of it is probably just his natural character, but when he was happy to entertain himself even as a small baby, I let him go for it. Now he often occupies himself with all kinds of projects everyday. We work in the same room, but I don't need to be coaching every step, which is great. We do one extra activity at a time and he gets to pick. Right now it's tennis. We'll see what the future brings! Yay for independent kids who get to be bored!
Your kids are brilliant! Go mama!
Twat waffle is one of my favorite insults. I have been hearing that so many kids are just unable to function. It's a bit shocking because my kids and their friends are, for the most part, doing pretty well in spite of the existential, ecological, political, social, and economic crises they are facing.
That's so awesome your boy is able to entertain himself. My girls have been pretty self entertaining, but both my boys are super social and pretty constantly wanting to go places and do things. They got a lot more opportunity for the value of boredom.
And thanks! I'm so super proud of my kids. They are all really amazing people.
