RE: Electronic Dance Music: The Great Misconception

in #edm7 years ago (edited)

I'm not so much into EDM although I like electronic music. I like stuff like !!! and Hot Chip. Maybe it's just that I couldn't see myself dancing at an EDM festival. I'm not sure where the difference lies between EDM and electronic music. I say this as someone who plays electronic music. EDM is at least an influence on a band I used to play with. Although I think I'm more influenced by punk, bubble gum and powerpop. I'm certainly "not doing it right" but I don't care about the rules. I want to make music like what influences me, but with synths.

Hey there's no right way to do it my man! I guess the difference would like in the "dancing" aspect of it. The song "sea of voices" I linked at the end of the post is certainly not a song one would dance to, but is indeed electronic. I just feel as if the genre as a whole is kind of misunderstood by the general population as a whole. What kind of electronic music do you play?

My old band was described as dance punk. I guess that was a good descriptive. I played synth and did vocals. I'm working on some stuff with electronic drums, 2 synths and a looping pedal. I'm just trying to figure out lyrics and vocals.

Oh wow that's awesome! Make sure to post it when you finish. Im really curious.
