RE: {blog} All The Colours Of The Rainbow - The State Of Vinyl Today
Very interesting regarding Vinyl and state today. I was reading somewhere, there are apparently only two real specialist in Vinyl production, one guy in Japan who is retiring and some guy int he USA. Not sure if that is try or not, but for some reason I dont find it hard to believe. Some friend got some experience with some pressing factory in Eastern Europe, but the quality is not that good; I suppose because pressing is an art, and only a few know how to do this after a couple of decades digital music (DAT, CD, USB, Internet).
Supposedly, in NL a new Vinyl pressing workshop launched earlier this year; Have no idea if they know their stuff, or not.
I also heard no modern machines are available for vinyl pressing, and the old machines are hard to repair, because of parts that are not manufactured anymore. But with the increase of artists who want to bring out their music on Vinyl, I really hope these pressing companies can make a living, and can deliver quality pressings (again).
Nice one you mentions Prince of Denmark! This mysterious guy belonging to the Giegling clan! Giegling is super hot in the underground scene since last year or two. Actually most of their artists I real like when they DJ, and produce (although they dont produce that much). New Years Day we have a marathon session of Giegling in WAS. Utrecht, 16 hours. I actually may be their. WAS. is the newest club addition in my little country, just opened its doors, and intents to bring quality stuff only. They take example from Berghain and Amsterdam based De School and the programmer has a string eye for what quality is, I know that for sure.
Yeah! The pressing world has stood still while the demand has exploded! I've read the odd story of old disused machines being discovered and brand new plants being made... but I'm hearing the same stories from people I know trying to get vinyl pressed. Delays, delays, delays. I've seen things like personal pressing machines coming onto the market, and that could be quite useful for the one man band outfits. No idea about their quality though!
PoD. I didn't have the requisite 100EUR to buy that! I did grab the Giegling compilation around the same time, plus a great set of Huerco S remixes of Olin. We had Leafar Legov play the Inverted Audio tent at Farr Festival this year, and he rolled out a bunch of stuff from the KettenKarussell album. Which I now feel compelled to listen to this afternoon. But yeah, PoD. That message that PoD is over now. No more Traumprinz? No more DJ Metatron?
De School sounds impressive, I see a lot of people namechecking the vibe there. Our local awesome place is Hidden (Manchester). Great curation going on there. Fatherhood means I don't get to visit it though!
I'll make a not of that, never been to Manchester, but now you gave me a reason :)
The best underground club in the Netherlands, for sure. WAS. may be in the same league, need to check it out.
Super artists! And very very friendly guy! Last time I heard him play was at ADE at Loveland party in Kettenkarusell combo. Still need to hear him solo. But I know his Soundcloud stuff.
