Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, has officially launched a new political party in the United States called the America Party, aiming to disrupt the entrenched two-party system. Announced on his social media platform X, the party places Bitcoin at the center of its platform, with Musk calling the U.S. dollar and fiat currency “hopeless.”

The America Party emerged after a poll where nearly 1.24 million people voted, with two-thirds supporting the creation of a new political movement. Musk criticized the current political system as a “one-party system” plagued by waste and graft, promising to restore freedom through his new party.

Bitcoin, which Musk’s companies Tesla and SpaceX hold in large quantities (over 19,700 BTC worth more than $2 billion), is positioned as a symbol of economic reform and fiscal responsibility. Musk has long been a proponent of digital assets, and now he is bringing Bitcoin into the political arena.

The America Party plans to focus on key House and Senate races in the 2026 midterms rather than immediately fielding a presidential candidate. Musk’s strategy is to target a small number of districts to influence close votes in Congress. The party advocates for pro-technology policies, reduced regulation, and free speech.

Musk’s announcement follows a public fallout with former President Donald Trump over a massive $3.4 trillion spending bill, which Musk criticized for worsening the national debt, now exceeding $37 trillion. He warned that without fiscal reform, the dollar could lose its value.

While some analysts believe Musk’s endorsement could boost Bitcoin’s mainstream acceptance, others caution that politicizing the cryptocurrency might complicate its adoption. Regardless, Bitcoin has now firmly entered the political conversation, forcing politicians nationwide to take a stance.
