Footprints of care; leaving beaches cleaner

I sometimes fail to understand, why do people not take responsibility of their actions in their environment, why do they want others to clean up their mess. In summers we do not do our beach clean-up drives, it gets very humid and becomes extremely difficult to do the job. Normally from October we start with our clean-up drives, last week we visited the beach which is in the heart of the city for the clean-up. There are strict rules by the ministry on littering but still people get their way out to pollute the place, and how much check can be kept. Especially over the weekends it gets crowded and it's difficult to overlook. I believe that this is mindfulness that every single person should have and these things cannot be taught. They are basic civic sense.

All of this garbage was collected by our team from the beach. It's not only this much, there are many more bags, we kept filling them up and transferring into the pick-up vans.

There are all sorts of waste but maximum is plastic water bottles, their caps, sometimes people dispose the bottles but the caps lie around the beach. There is lot of tissue paper waste, and the sad thing is they just keep flying all over the place. Then there are barbeque materials and disposables. People want to have fun but do not want to clean up their mess.

The maximum we found this time were cigarette buds, if we would have put all of them in one bag, probably the whole bag would have been filled up. This is very common; smokers smoke and then throw the buds on the ground. I wander at their home they follow the same practice and throw around the cigarette buds in the house randomly on the floor. On the beach at regular intervals there is provision made to dispose the cigarette buds but they do not use that.

This is just a handful.

It's still not very pleasant and this time because of the weather I felt lot of exhaustion. I could only do it for 1 hour which were 2 rounds and then gave up, almost everyone, because we were all sweating and completely drenched out with sweat.

The funny part is there are people on the beach, they are acknowledging our work but they are not joining us in the effort. It was like it's our job. Anyways yes, I do feel responsible to do these things and take care of my environment.
