Kirstos Samra: The Saint who prayed for Satan

This is a powerful story from Ethiopia about Saint Kirstos Samra, a woman of a great faith and compassion. Her courage and kindness led her to ask God for something unimaginable: to have mercy on Satan. Her is her story:-

     Saint Kirstos Samra was a holy woman who lived in Ethiopia. She is considered one of the greatest saints in the country. She had 12 children, after raising them,she chose a life of prayer and became a nun. 
Because of her deep kindness and strong faith, One day God asked her, what do you want me to do for you ?"

She replied, " I want you to have mercy on Satan."
God was surprised " Satan is the worst of all. He betrayed me!"
But Kirstos Samra said " I know. But maybe if you show him mercy, he might stop deceiving people."
God agreed to give her the chance. " You may call him," he said. Then he added " Michael! Follow her."

The angel Michael followed her as God commanded. Kirstos Samra went to the edge of the Hell and called out, " Satan! Come. God is ready to have mercy on you."

From the depth of Hell, Satan looked up and laughed. "Really? You came this all for me?" Then suddenly, he grabbed her and pulled her down into Hell.

There, she saw many souls suffering under his power.

But then Michael entered. He fought off Satan rescued Kirstos Samra and many other souls from torment. Satan was furious.

Later, God asked her, " What did you learn?"
Kirstos Samra bowed her head and said, " You were right. Satan will never change. Please forgive me."

This story reminds us of the power of mercy - even when it seems impossible.
