Ravens (and crows) are my favorite birds. We have crows here and occasionally they venture down into the woods, but usually when they are in my neighborhood they are high in the treetops talking to each other. But we never see ravens in southern Wisconsin, so I am always delighted to come upon them when I travel north, or out West.

My favorite Raven story is when we were traveling through the west and had our old German Shepherd with us. Anna was a great traveller and she had been riding in the backseat for several hours and we knew we needed to stop and let her get out and stretch her legs.
We came across a big gravel parking area that was empty, except for a semi truck parked right in the middle of the lot. It had rained earlier in the day and and at the far end of the parking area there was a big mud puddle with a raven standing beside it.
Anna looked up for permission and was given the nod to 'go get it'. The raven watched the dog coming and rather nonchalantly flew behind the semi truck with Anna at full speed right behind. That bird stayed about 6 feet off the ground and made 5 loops around the truck, with the dog in hot pursuit! It was obvious they were both enjoying the game, but we finally had to end it, knowing that the old dog was no match for the raven!

This raven was delighted to share my trail mix

They certainly are!

Smart birds there are. I find a lot of birds are smarter then we think....

I agree! I love watching and learning about them!

What a funny story dogs always think they can fly when it comes to birds...lol...well i am glad i wasn't the last to post on @featheredfriday now i feel better...hehe :)

Because of the Shadow Contest posts on Friday I am often behind on everything all weekend. It seems like my favorite challenges I'll come do at once! Now I've got to go look at your feathered Friday post!

Love your raven photos and story.

At my previous house, there was a group of crows that I called mine. They were so much fun to watch. I have seen some from a distance here, but have not gotten them to adopt me yet. Maybe this summer. 🙂

Thanks! I used to have some that came down and ate anything that was left under the bird feeder. But then I moved the feeder from the front yard to the back and they have never been to it in its new location. . Well, not exactly new because I moved the feeder about 15 years ago!🤣

How dare you offend them like that ?? !! LOL

Yeah, but to hold a Grudge for 15 years! You would have thought that sometime within that time frame they would have gotten a little hungry at least.

"Yeah, but to hold a Grudge for 15 years!"..... that made me laugh !

I haven't heard any around all winter. They were probably really smart and decided it was much too cold here and went further south!

Terrific story and photos! I really like the first one with the split rail fence. You got nice and close for these shots. I wasn't sure with my photo if I had crows or ravens, but I'm sure that yours is a raven because of the shape of the beak. Thank you for your continued support of Feathered Friday! Voted and resteemed :-)

These guys were very friendly! I'm pretty sure that many tourists before me had given them a snack!

Here There are times ravens are a plague. In the first picture I wonder what he is thinking

He was definitely wondering if my camera was edible! Or if I had a snack to offer him as payment for posing.

Yes they always want to eat !

It used to be that they would move from one part of town to another depending on when trash pick-up day was. People would set their garbage at the curb in plastic garbage bags and those crows were amazing a ripping the bags open and finding all the treats inside! They would make quite a mess! Now the city has changed to a different trash system where everything goes into a cart that has a lid on it and that is wheeled to the curb so the crows don't have easy pickings like they used to.

Ha, ha they are VERY smart creatures. Great first shot btw.

Thanks! They are smart, aren't they? Hope all is well with you!

There are ups and downs I am sure you understand. Staying positive is a must! :) ❤️

Positive is the only way! Hugs from me.

That was a fun run-around... :)
Bet both enjoyed it... and it certainly gave Anna a chance to stretch out!
Wonderful views to back the shots with the raven...

The photos were in Arizona. It is a lovely part of the country! So different from where I live.
