Festival Spirit of Dusshera, Vijayadashmi and Durga Puja
Today is a very auspicious day in the Indian culture. Different parts of India is celebrating it in different ways. In the Northern and Southern part of India it is linked with Ramayana, which is the story of Lord Ram, Sita and Ravana, where Lord Ram killed Ravana and brought Sita back home from his captive. The statue of Ravana with his 10 heads is burned to symbolize the victory of good over evil. The names of the festival are different but the symbolism is same. In Northern part it is celebrated as Dusshera, whereas in the Southern part it is celebrated as Vijayadashmi. In the Eastern part of India, the Durga Puja is done, which is the story of Goddess Durga defeating the demon king Mahishasura after a battle of 10 days. This also brings the end to the 9 days of Navratri festival.
All of these festivals are celebrated with the only one intention that finally there is always victory of good over the evil. Not sure in today's world how much we can validate that, because when I look around on what's happening in so many parts of the world I do not see that the good finally wins, rather it is becoming the opposite, with extreme pain and suffering, violence and killing it seems like we are living in an age where evil is ruling. But nevertheless faith is what keeps us going and we must never lose our hope on good. That's also equally true that some time or the other the evil will come to an end. It may come in brutal ways but it does. After all these mythologies are also telling us the same story, there is a fight against the evil to destroy them and that did not happen very easy.
Not to forget today is Gandhi Jayanti also which is the birthday of the most important figure in the Indian Independence history, giving respect to his ideologies of non-violence and faith. His ideologies were completely different from the rest of the world. A lot of people criticized him for that, but then in the end he was instrumental in bringing freedom for India with his own non-violent ways. So you can see there are so many reasons to celebrate.
All these festivals and celebrations bring cultural richness and aspirations of well-being for us. It makes us believe in good, it retains our faith and hope irrespective of whatever is happening in our surroundings. Some times with little lots of hope and undoubted faith we can win big battles. The energies of these celebrations spread out in the air and brings positive energies for everyone. These are the times when we bond with out family and friends and spend time in love, cheer and laughter.
Wishing all my Indian friends a happy festive day and loads of happiness
