FFF~I Ain’t Eatin’ That!~FFF
Welp, it’s that time again!! How are my fellow Food Fighters doin’ on this beautiful Friday? Bellies full? Food coma maybe? Or you haven’t eating in a while and you are starving like a hostage... I hope I didn’t go to far with that one.... Good news for those that are hungry, this shouldn’t encourage an appetite... at least I don’t think anyway. This post is about thinking just slightly... OK... straight up, totally, completely, out of the box when it comes to a Food Fight Friday submission. That is what what make Food Fight Friday the Coolest Kitchen on the Blockchain. Hey, I’m just sayin’...

Granted some people do eat this type of fish but I haven’t tried it. Supposedly they taste good pickled???? Ummm ya? Pickled Fish?? I’m cool with just pickled cucumbers for now:wink:wink.
I loaded up the kids at 5:30 am to to met up with my Dad and one of my Older Brothers just below McNary Dam on the Columbia River. We are doing some fish in’!!! The Shad fishing is crazy this time of the year. It is great fun!! You can just troll around and literally have constant action reeling these guys in. The kids love it!! Yet I think it might ruin their patients level when it comes to fishing. Oops my bad...

Within the first hour we probably caught around close to 20. That was plenty for what we wanted to do with them. See now this is where the food part comes in. We aren’t feeding ourselves, No way!! We are feeding the Dinosaurs at the bottom of the Columbia River. You want to catch big fish... you use big bait. Lol. But first, before I tell you about this prehistoric monster of the Columbia River, we tried to feed some of the Shad to this group of White Pelicans hanging out on the rocks.

The Shad were biting but the Pelicans... not so much. Normally you can toss a Shad in the water, the Pelicans see you throw it, and the Shad is floating there. They will lift off on go down and scoop it up.

We were really hoping they would go after it but they weren’t taking the... bait. So we fished a little while longer catching Shad and throwing them back. Just having some fun, because that is what it is all about.

Home Sweet Home

Well my Food Flinging Folks that is all I have for you on this wonderful Food Fight Friday. Yes, this actually did take place on Friday and Yes we did actually Fling some Food... to the Pelicans... and they didn’t eat it nor did we hit them. Hey those Shad are slimy as all get out!!
Wait a minute... there is something I am forgetting here.. ummm... Oh Ya!! The Dinosaur in the Columbia River we were trying to feed. Some call it the White Sturgeon, we just call it the Dinosaur. These fish are very very old and they get um uh pretty dang HUGE!! This is a photo from the sturgeon viewing area at Bonneville Dam farther down the river this spring when we went on vacation.

This is Herman the Sturgeon and he is approximately 10-11 feet long and around 80 years old!! Just to give you all a little perspective and a couple 100% original photos taken by yours truly. I mean I could scrounge some up off the internet but why, when I have my own, right.

Ok so now you see the Dinosaur we were trying to feed. Hey they gotta eat too right?!? After trying to feed these guys in a “honey hole” that my brother found a couple years back. (8,10, and 14 foot White Sturgeons have been caught here... so says the fisherman :wink:wink) after around an hour we got bugged by the Oregon State Patrol and let’s just say they totally ruined our time. They bugged us for 45 minutes!!! I’m not even going to go into details about this. We were doing nothing wrong but they just wanted to show their presence I guess. Anyway, We were going to go to another spot but they just took up the rest of the time we had... gee thanks!!

Well we didn’t have any luck feeding the Pelicans or the Sturgeon but we did an outstanding job at enjoying a beautiful day on the Columbia River.

It looks like a fantastic day out. I've never seen a sturgeon before, but have heard of them. Thanks for the photos!
Dude. The only reason this one didn’t go off is because someone your previous one did. This one was just as fun to read as the appreciation one.
Great job, sir, your kids are lucky to have you.
