Prologue

"Sir... What about experiment 140"

"It failed again... just leave it, it's hopeless.. don't waste your time"

A year later

"And there has been an increase in the death rate of people suffering from this sudden outbreak.... Doctors around the world are yet to find out what it is... moving on to the next report" The newscaster said

"I wonder what pandemic this could be... new sicknesses all the time," Janet said
"Who knows..." Jolly replied

Four friends, Janet, Jolly, James and Jack, were eating in a restaurant when the news came up.
"Guys, it's getting more and more stressful attending to all these sick patients at the office... how about we do our research on this sudden illness... even though we're just nurses, and of course doctors don't put faith in us... We can work something out," Jack said
The three other friends stared at him for a while before they slowly nodded.. If they could do this, it could boost their hospital's popularity.
But In their country... Only lab scientists ran tests... nurses were viewed as errand workers who answered to the doctor's every beck and call.

On a Friday evening, at the close of work... Janet and Jolly, we're still hanging around.
"Hey Jolly... Doctor Mike told me to clean up the restricted room. If it were restricted, I wonder why he should ask me to do it. Could you help me?... I've never been in that room," Janet said
"Let's go... there's nothing else to do anyway"

They entered the room after using the key to open the door... it looked like it was once a laboratory for testing and creating stuff... But it was messed up, files scattered everywhere.
Some test tubes were turned over, and different liquids were in some, but they all looked wasted.

They got to work... cleaning up the dust that was everywhere.... arranging all the files... carefully emptying test tubes after verifying what was inside them. And then keeping them clean, it was a whole lot of work, but in a few hours, they were done.

"My goodness, this was so stressful... I'm glad we're done," Janet said.
Jolly nodded and was taking one last look around when her eyes stumbled on something.
"Hey... did we clean that little cabinet... cause there's a file on top of it"

Janet nodded and they headed towards the cabinet... it was just separate from all other drawers and had a file on it... Jolly picked up the file and was casually flipping through it...
"Just a bunch of successful experiments and stuff like that... Wait! hold on, check this out," she said

That file read "EXPERIMENT 140 FAILED"
"We should probably take this home.. and call James and Jack too.. let's work on it.. even though it probably might be useless... it'll just be another fun adventure, yunno exploring chemicals...." Janet said

Jolly concurred... the four friends had been together since College. Their fun time usually included making random experiments, even though they made no sense, so they decided to just check this out.

They got home and since they were off work the next day... they decided to meet at their so-called secret lab where they performed all their weird experiments...

They looked at the manual... and started mixing and making... They studied their results for a while...
"Guys... this could have been a drug but.... something is missing" Jack said
"How about we try using organic ingredients... I mean something natural could make all the difference," Jolly said

They all agreed to it, and they mixed a few natural herbs... Jack was an expert in local herbs... it took them two full days, and they had a lot of failed logs...
"Ugh!! It messed up Log 45 failed!" Janet said
They wanted to give up hope... but that was not them.

"Guys... let's try mixing all we've abandoned together and see the results" James said
They all agreed and began the experiment... They created something unique but they weren't sure if it would work.

"Guys... we did it! We made a drug... although we don't know what it does yet... probably cure headaches" James said, and they all laughed...

They casually took it to work the next day, and they found out the pandemic that hit was now diagnosed to be Lassa fever.
As they stepped into the office together, a girl of around five years was shivering seriously and seemed very sick, she was crying pitifully... but she still had a long line before she could see a doctor.
Janet quickly ran and got a syringe.... she injected their solution into the girl. The girl passed out.

A few hours later, the four nurses were seated in the head doctor's office... Doctor Mike.

"What first aid did you give that girl?" The doctor asked calmly... Janet was scared.

"I'm very sorry, Sir.. the four of us worked out a new drug.. and I'm sure it didn't harm the girl" Janet said

" Who said it harmed the girl!!! You guys are geniuses, the girl... who was showing symptoms of the Lassa fever and was about to be diagnosed just healed miraculously... your drug saved her life!!!!" Dr Mike said

The four nurses we're speechless.
Turns out they had made the vaccine for the Lassa fever pandemic that broke out... and they had just saved a patient...

They tried it out on others and it worked... they made more and soon every hospital around the world was sent the vaccines....
The four nurses made their hospital widely known, and people from all countries come there for treatments..
Nurses were now respected in their various workplaces due to that, too.

And it all started from one failed experiment.....
