Steemit Challenge S26-w3 : The Boss's Challenge
The Boss’s Challenge
The meeting room was unusually tense that afternoon. Everyone had taken their seats as the General Manager walked in, holding a thin folder. He wasted no time.
“Gentlemen,” he began, “we’ve secured a new contract with a car rental agency. They want a program powered by an exclusive algorithm—something that calculates rates dynamically.”
All eyes shifted to the two project managers.
“John. Timothy. You’ll lead this. Assemble your engineers today and give me their names before you leave.”
John leaned back, puzzled. “Any special features, sir?”
The General Manager gave a sharp nod. “Yes. Rates should fluctuate based on real-time demand, accounting for peak and off-commuting hours. On top of that, incorporate promotional offers that encourage bookings but don’t hurt revenue. I expect your preliminary plan by tomorrow.”
With that, the meeting ended. Silence lingered before the engineers filed out, leaving John and Timothy to stare at each other.
A Great Starting Scenario
John broke the silence. “Real-time demand? That means we’ll need data streaming in live.”
Timothy smirked. “Exactly. Traffic APIs, flight arrivals, maybe even weather data. If demand spikes during rain, we charge more. If flights land at midnight, we adjust pricing.”
John chuckled. “So basically, we’re building an app that thinks like a smart trader in the stock market—buy low, sell high.”
Plans
The duo mapped out the challenge:
- Data Integration – Connect the app to multiple sources for real-time demand.
- Dynamic Pricing Algorithm – Rates should surge when the demand is high and dwindle during times of inactivity..
- Promotional Offers – Include everything from short term discounts that bring in customers for the short term without discounting a cost or long term.
- Team Selection – Choose engineers skilled in machine learning, API integration, and UX design.
Timothy scribbled on the whiteboard. “We can’t just make it technical. The customer experience must stay smooth. If the app feels unfair, people won’t use it.”
John nodded. “We’ll keep transparency. Show users why prices change, and they’ll trust the system.”
The Execution
Within a week, John and Timothy had handpicked a cross-functional team. They split responsibilities:
- Timothy oversaw the algorithm design—feeding it with real-world scenarios.
- John handled system architecture and client interface.
Late nights turned into brainstorming marathons. At one point, Timothy slammed his coffee mug down.
“What if the algorithm overcharges during emergencies?”
John replied calmly, “Then we’ll build in a safeguard. During crisis hours, the system freezes rates at normal levels. No exploitation.”
That decision alone would later win client trust.
The Conversation
On the fifth week, the General Manager called them in. “How’s progress?”
Timothy opened his laptop, projecting the interface. “Here’s a live demo. Demand in this area just spiked because of a flight arrival—watch the price.”
The numbers on screen adjusted smoothly. The General Manager raised an eyebrow.
John added, “Notice here—when traffic slows down, the price drops. And if a promo is applied, it still balances overall revenue.”
The General Manager leaned back, impressed. “You’ve built something not just functional but intelligent.”
End of the Story with a Result
By the sixth week, the system went live for beta testing. It was lauded by customers for its fairness and transparency. The company generated 15% more revenue in just a month.
As they were celebrating, John said to Timothy, “It’s not just the challenge; it’s raising the bar.
Timothy grinned. “That’s the real boss’s challenge—turning vision into impact.”
That was the real Boss’s Challenge.
Takeaway for Readers
No leader wins alone. The greatest victories are born when trust, teamwork, and vision come together. In life, just like in business, success is not about control—it’s about collaboration.

Steemit Challenge S26-w3 : The Boss's Challenge
Dear @anthony002 , here is the detailed assessment of your submission:
Use of subheadings make your story sound more like a project report which are unnecessary in fiction writing.
You started as well ended your story abruptly which had a lot of potential.
Thank you very much @dove11 for the thoughtful assessment and constructive feedback.
I truly appreciate the detailed breakdown of my submission. Your observation about the use of subheadings and the abrupt start and end is well taken — I can see how refining those aspects would improve the flow and make the story more immersive as fiction.
This feedback gives me valuable insight into how I can approach future challenges with better structure and storytelling depth. I will surely keep it in mind for my next entries.
Thanks again for the guidance and encouragement! 🙏
