The Unlikely Friendship

As Teena stormed into the marketing office, clutching yet another financial report, her heels clicked sharply on the polished floor. Dev, who was close to her, leaned his body casually against his desk, a confident grin tugging at his lips.

Teena said. Dev smirked, unfazed. Then she responded that most times numbers don't capture opportunities. A deal was closed on the road by my team. You can measure such deals in receipts.

"Dev", she said, your team has overshot the travel budget this time around. As a leader, you cannot continue to approve all these expenses without proper justifications.

She didn't say anything but she folded her arms very tightly. "Receipts are proof. Without receipts, everything is speculation. There are rules for a reason".

Dev countered and said "and risks for growth".

For over a week, the tension escalated further. Dev thought Teena was too rigid in her decision, while Teena viewed and see Dev as someone reckless. Their colleagues were caught in the crossfire when they started arguing in a meeting.

The CEO called both of them into his office on a Friday evening when they were supposed to be at their various home. The CEO firmly said, "Enough". The two of you are the sharpest minds in this office, but your continued bickering is hurting the team. You both will work together on the upcoming pitch by next week. Both of you will lose this project if you cannot cooperate.

They were stunned by the news. Teena wasn't happy as she relied on Dev, and Dev disliked the fact that he was being micromanaged by Teena.

The Turning Point

They met late at night during the week, reviewing strategies and numbers. At the beginning, all meetings ended in arguments. But as time went on, Teena gradually noticed something different. Dev was careless but he was so strategic. Dev's risky moves were always calculated, hidden behind his casual lifestyle.

"You kept every record," she agreed one night, flipping through Dev's neatly well-organised notebook.

Dev chuckles. "Of course. I just don't wave them around like a flag. It is confidence that clients trust and not spreadsheets".

Teena said, "But without those spreadsheets, how do you protect the company image?"

Dev, "I protect the company image by making sure we win in everything we do".

Teena saw Dev entirely differently. Not reckless, but so bold. Not careless, but protective in his own way.

The understanding and Friendship

Finally, the day for the pitch arrived. Teena handled everything about the financial presentation, solid and precise. Dev followed with his persuasive and bold storytelling strategy. Together they both blended caution with vision and won the hearts of their client.

Dev offered Teena a rare, genuine smile in the office. "Teena, do you know what, you are not as I thought you were."

Teena smirked back. "And you're not as careless as you pretend to be which was how I was seeing".

From that very moment, their relationship changed and became stronger. Teena learned to appreciate Dev's, while Dev himself respected Teena's discipline. From then on, their argument turned into debates, and their debates turned into brainstorming, which remained opposites, without having divided differences.

Yeah, but Dev feel less superior in the eyes of Teena which he wasn't too comfortable about. Thanks for your support.

🎉 Congratulations!

Feedback

  • This could be a great story but as per the demand of prompt Tina and Dev had two separate sets of work. Tina was supposed to audit the accounts of marketing department and not part of the team that had to present projects.

  • You were not supposed to use contest theme post.
