Two-timing

John was traveling from Sydney to Canberra by bus. He settled into his seat and looked casually at the side seat next to his, which wasn't occupied yet.

‎> At that moment his phone rang. It was his wife, who asked if his journey from Delhi to Sydney was okay. When John was busy answering her call, he saw a beautiful girl in her mid-twenties come and sit beside him.

‎> John hung up and smiled at the girl in the next seat. They started a conversation as soon as the bus started moving. Three hours passed talking on different topics, and they reached Canberra.

‎> John was feeling a strange temptation. He was too anxious, and then it happened. When getting down from the bus, that girl Tina shook hands, slipped a card into his hand, and smiled...

Call me anytime tomorrow. The moment she handed him the cards and left, his mind switched to a different world of thoughts, a flashback into who he felt would be his seat partner. Having just returned from a long business talk for more than an hour before embarking on this journey, seeing a man by his side would make the journey more boring. Unlike other flights accompanied by his wife, this flight was a different one. The moment his phone rang, it was a relief. Oh, how much he missed his beloved! In less than 24 hours, it was as if it had been a decade. He talked about how he would return home to give her a better treat in expectation of their son.

As she walked up directly to me like an angel, as if she was a gift from the flight, the old man sang into John, 'How could she be this beautiful?' Every single damsel that passes around him appear more beautiful when the old man's lustful desire comes until he didn't even realise when he hung up on his wife and switched off the phone. 'This one is exceptional,' he thought, 'more beautiful than my wife.' He was almost carried away by her beauty until she greeted him the second time as she waved. At this time he realised someone was seeking his response. He blinked swiftly. 'Sweetheart, you are welcome.'

He could see these memories flood back like a raindrop. One thing shocked his bubbles: the cards. Why the cards? As he contracted his eyelids dimly into the pamphlet, he couldn't believe his eyes: a theme looking very compelling, "One Night with Your Lover". The venue had been a place he visited long ago for a business meeting, so it wouldn't be hard to trace. He would be heading straight out, and this wouldn't set his mission open to the crowd of many that knew him.

At about a few minutes past midnight, a creak-crack sound woke him up; the more he tried sleeping, a clear picture of the beautiful damsel and the location resurfaced. Her beauty and the decent dress were less seductive, and his mind puzzled him as he wondered how strange it is that a lady of this appearance could offer him an invitation to a hotel room.

A brighter morning came, meeting John on his bed, eyes open. He can't wait to meet Tina again; he glanced twice at the address while he rushed to take a shower. 'I will meet her again, that beautiful damsel.' At this point he forgot that he has a wife. The old man set in, the arousal came in.

He boarded a private drive down to the hotel; he chatted with Tina to get the room number. On the far end, he passed some strippers on the far end of the pool. The room number was 326. On getting there, he was asked for an invitation cards; fortunately, he didn't forget it. The righteous-looking guard showed him a narrow walkway with good interior lighting. 'Take your left when you reach the extreme.' He chatted with Tina for confirmation. As he turned left, he saw a large gathering, one whose sitting arrangement was like a mini stadium.

What could this be? A church? Where is Tina? On the centre of a podium he saw the same inscription on the card. The usher welcomed him. The threat alone made him stay till the end. That night drove away the old man in John. Promiscuity was gone. He became more committed because everything the preacher said was a reflection of who he truly was. Unfortunately, Tina is the daughter of the regional pastor; she had come to set up the place for the evangelism. In there she won a soul; a man's life got transformed as he reaffirmed his relationship with his maker.

After 6 months, contact with Tina was not lost; they met in the next conference with John's wife, and all they discussed this time was "The Word". 'John is a changed man. One day I will tell my wife the story of how we met,' he said as he shook Tina's hand in departure.

  • I guess you missed a couple of points in the prompt since I felt no sense of temptation or Tina in this story.

  • There was a single card that Tina handed over to John while parting ways at Canberra bus terminal but you mentioned cards. I am not sure where you led John when he reached the address Tina gave him and the scenario that followed.
