The Mysterious Passenger
—¿Austrasia?
—Yes, I come from Austrasia
The airport security kept him for three long hours and he wanted everything to end. The lady Officer said to her colleagues that he was from an unidentified country and had the same accent of those native people from Belgium or Germany. As soon as he was taken to the interrogation room and started to answer the questions, the officers knew the guy was not kidding.
They even brought a map and asked him to show them where his country was. The foreigner searched for it and, after scanning the map, his eyes leaned on Europe —great, this explains the accent, celebrated the younger officer— but when the man put his right hand index finger on Netherlands and repeated the strange name his happiness vanished.
—That´s the Netherlands.
The officers asked the flight attendants if he behaved weird or was acting suspicious but they said he was normal. One of the attendants said he drank alcohol but not too much.
They checked his passport and figured out he had travelled to Canada, Norway, Iceland, Denmark and Australia being the Oceanic land the last one in his travel itinerary. Pictures of him were sent to the authorities of the airports who recognized him and said he didn´t give them any trouble. Further information was found, he was actually born in Reims had his parents had to go abroad too often and they had to take him with them which explains why he can speak several languages and why he can travel frequently.
They took his documents to get them analyzed. Everything looked so real except for that seal of that mysterious country. It looked like other seals but when they searched for the images to compare it didn´t match.
The officers left the man alone. After a few minutes of solitude and silence, he felt asleep. The older officer saw him with his arms crossed and his head leaned on them. The officers waited for him to wake up and it was only because he had cooperated and was not aggressive.

As soon the foreigner was awake again, the youunger officer took a coffee for him which he thanked and drank it while the questions started again.
—Sir, -said the older one— I just cannot believe that you come from a country called like that.
—And I said I do. I was born in Reims and I constantly go abroad.
—Reims? —asked the younger—. But it is in France.
The foreigner frowned, wondering why he doubted about Reims.
—Wait a minute –said the man— You asked me where I come from, right? —officers nodded— Where I come from in the plain I arrived here, right?
He looked ashamed and stared at the table for a few seconds before talking again.
An hour later, the man was released.

In a meeting, the officers spoke about him and said that he was so tired because of the jet lag that he didn´t understand the questions they were asking him.
—The guy was born in Reims but his parents were taking him abroad he lived in the Netherlands. When he entered the country he had just come from Australia. All the information mixed in his head and whenever he had to answer he was too tired and puzzled that he couldn´t answer correctly. He couln´t stop saying Austrasia instead of Australia.
—So, Austrasia was not a fictional country? -asked an attendant.
—No, it was a real one but it has not existed since it was disoluted in 751. The seal was in the passport because the man had it as a joke for himself.
—Ah, there is no country of a parallel universe?
—No, just a bunch of regular countries with an old name.
