Every business environment has to face various challenging situations that test the skills, patience, and teamwork of employees. This is the story of John and Timothy. Both are determined professionals who were given a high caliber challenge by their General Manager. Their task was to build, a smart program for a car rental agency that used dynamic pricing—a system that could raise or lower prices based on demand, peak hours, and availability. The given time for the task was only six weeks.

The General Manager’s voice was firm:
“You two, form a team of engineers. You have Six weeks. Deliver a program with dynamic pricing that keeps fares competitive as well as profitable. Don’t disappoint me.”
John looked worried but Timothy stayed calm. They knew that this was rather not another project but was a test of leadership, strategy, and execution.

They selected members for their team immediately. The name of team members are following:-

  1. Priya – User-interface designer
  2. Omar – Backend developer
  3. Alina – Data model expert
  4. Hassan – Security specialist
They sketched out their plan together and build a system that adjusted car rental prices in real time, reflecting demand spikes and off-peak hours while keeping the customers happy.

The Execution

The following weeks were a mix of of ideas and long nights:

  1. Week 1–2: Alina created a pricing model, Priya designed a clean, transparent interface, and Omar built the backend.
  2. Week 3: A major roadblock hit the traffic API failed. Omar was frustrated. John made the tough call: “Cut it. Focus on booking frequency and vehicle availability.”
  3. Week 4–5: Hassan strengthened the security, ensuring no hacker could tamper with the pricing system.
  4. Week 6: The app finally came alive. Prices rose during rush hour, dropped when demand fell, and promotions kept customers interested. The app worked wonderfully.

Feedback

  • You listed the engineers and their roles almost like a PowerPoint slide. I didn't get to know them as characters, so they felt flat and functional rather than part of a living story.
