On that evening after the day's work, Dennis's laptop was shining on his face. Faced with more workload than he usually does, he seated in the quiet navigating the spreadsheet as usual.

The sound of a hard heeled shoe on the marbles startled him. I know who walks in that rhythm - he said to himself as he looks into the space ahead of him. The figure that appeared made him smile.

"Oh My darling Jenny, what do we have here" he said as Jenny appeared. I brought rice with soup for you, I figured you will still be working, you know you could take a rest away from the screen for now right?- she said, looking at him with a smile.

She offered him the food. Hmmmm, this smells good!! He said as he got a spoon to eat while they talk.

"You know I have a goal to become successful and wealthy. I need to make sure I pull off this deal. That is why I am working tirelessly" he said as he ate the food. You really do know how to cook Jenny - he couldn't stop praising her.

"Thank you!! I am always by your side to support you. And I have dreams to push this company and myself to the next level" she responded.

The evening was full of smiles as they both talked about their ambitions in life and goals. But that evening took a wrong turn, as Jenny stormed out of his office crying.

Months passed and Dennis couldn't apologize to Jenny.

What could Dennis have said or done to her?

The once loving colleagues and friends didn't talk to each other anymore. They maintained their formal distances in the office and people were surprised that they were no longer closed.

Years passed and Jenny resigned from the company while Dennis went on to become a CEO of another marketing firm. Renowned and so successful. He felt so fulfilled.

In the last quarter of the year, Dennis had a one month trip to Dubai to help a company with marketing strategies. Everything he wanted was provided. On a beautiful Monday, there was a meeting to discuss formalities on how to go about the marketing strategies. A beautiful lady stepped in.

This face is familiar, he blurted out.

Mr Dennis, you still remain the same body-wise. it's...Wait, Jennyy, he shouted before she could even finish up the sentence. They remembered they were in a meeting and had to adjust themselves back. After the meeting there was no time to discuss except pleasantries.

That evening was the worst evening Dennis had in years, it took him back to memories with Jenny. He started feeling that emptiness again. With his wealth and success something was still missing...Jenny.

His mind went back to that night in his office. Every word he said came back to his mind as he sat down there alone in thoughts...

Jenny: You have been on this project for so long and you don't have time for us anymore.

Dennis: You knew how ambitious I was before we started dating. I won't stop working hard. If I don't give everything now, there will be no future.

Jenny: Sometimes it feels like I am not on the list of things you are giving everything for.

Dennis: I won't throw away my future for you. You want me to slow down my life just so you don't feel lonely?

Jenny: (with a breaking voice)
I have always been supporting you, I feel you should just make out time for us.

Dennis:(shouting out)
You have always acted like a distraction to me. I am not going to feed your attention. If you are looking for a man that will hold hands with you all day, you have the wrong man. I have my life to live and you have yours..I don't see an umbilical cord connecting us. You can leave if you want.

These words broke Jenny and made her cry out of the office.

Dennis's pride couldn't allow him apologize. She was deeply hurt and couldn't stay seeing his face everyday. She resigned and left town.

The next day in Dubai, Dennis met her and apologized about the night they had issues some years back. He told her that his life has not been complete even when he felt fulfilled. That she was the one missing and he wants her back.

"Took you that long!! I have accepted your apology but wanting me back? I am married already. I found a man who could give me the attention I needed " she responded.

There was deadbeat silence, Dennis was dumbfounded .

Would there ever be a second chance for me?- he said as Jenny walked past him with a cheeky goodbye.
