Good thing modern technology brought us the smoke detectors with the 10 year battery. No need to change batteries any more, which saves a lot of money. Hell, you cannot change the battery even if you want to - which nicely takes care of the 10 year life time replacement issue of the detector itself. Now, who says we are not making any progress anymore... :)

The companies that make smoke detectors don't mind that at all!

Well, its a good thing for a change. The new type doesn't cost more, if you concider that a old type needed at least 10 batteries (20 if your advice is followed) during the 10 years. And that was the stupid, expensive 9V block batteries. So using the new 10 year alarms is probably even cheaper.

Maybe someone will run a cost/benefit analysis. Probably with a government grant!
