Frozen Tequeños - 16 September 2025

in #food26 days ago (edited)

I often get tempted to try the wonderful recipes posted on the platform so when I saw this box of frozen cheese fingers or tequeños at Lidl's supermarket I had to buy it.

The box of 8 tequeños cost £3.75 or around 37 Steem. I actually bought two boxes because 8 didn’t seem enough and if you look at the graphic on the box it shows many more than 8.

The photo looks very appealing.

The instructions were in Spanish, English and Dutch. The only problem is that I don’t have access to a (deep fat) fryer, but I can use an Air fryer. I thought it would be okay to bake the tequeños.

I followed the ‘recommendation’ and didn’t use a microwave.

After about 10 minutes I took the tequeños out of the air fryer to check and tried one. You can see the dough still looked a bit pale and raw.

I quickly put them back in the air fryer but realised that after another 10 minutes the cheese was coming out of the dough and there was little difference in the dough colour. See below:

I decided to just give up and tried these for taste. They tasted alright but this mishap shows that they were designed to be deep fat fried not air fried.

I will fry the second box I bought in a frying pan and see what happens.

Thank you for reading !

Friend, they must be fried in plenty of oil, the dough rises, and so does the tequeño. I know you don't like fats because of their content, but that's how tequeños are made. You lost that money, that's too bad. If there's a next time, you know what to do.

Thank you @marito74 - yes, next time I'll just fry them 😊
