Latte and Bakewell Cake - 24 September 2025

The other day while waiting for a friend, my friend and I went to a small cafe. It was around 4.30 already and many of the other cafes nearby were closed.
I had a decaff latte for £3 or around 30 Steem. The latte was nice and quite warm. I didn’t want to have a proper meal or anything so I just went for a piece of Bakewell cake and declined the offer to add cream. I paid £3.50 or around 35 Steem. I liked the look of the icing with that marbling effect. I also anticipated the taste of this cake as having almond flavour like a Bakewell tart.
The cafe owner used that lovely teaspoon in the shape of a spade - I liked the shape of the plate she used too. Sadly at that time the cake was already quite dry and didn’t taste that nice. Perhaps, I think the cafe owner knew the cake was dry so that’s why she offered the cream - in hindsight, I should have taken up that offer.
Anyway I don’t like wasting food so I finished both the drink and the latte, as you can see below:

I tried to ‘obscure’ the face of that person in the background, but they stand out a bit more now.
My friend enjoyed her wrap and had no complaints about the food. I was just a bit disappointed about the taste and texture of that Bakewell slice so I checked how to make this recipe. I've had Bakewell Tarts in the past and none have been this dry. I found this possibility on You Tube :
I think that the cake I had lacked the pastry element because it was labelled as a 'cake'. I feel it would have been nicer with some more almond taste, fruit or even jam.
Thank you for reading !
Great outing, that suggestion was good and you rejected it, but hey, those are the risks of visiting these places. I like that you enjoy the place and the experiences; the idea is to take away the good things and pass that on. Like you, I've come across places that aren't what I expected, but I have fun and see the good side.
Greetings from Margarita, where it's incredibly hot.
Thanks @marito74 !
