I travel the world #244 : Tsukiji Fishmarket (Part 1)
Tsukiji Fish-market
is the biggest wholesale Fish and Seafood market in the world. Every Japanese fish goes through Tsukiji first before being delivered to other cities in Japan on the same day. Over 700.000 metric tons of fish are handled every year in Tsukiji.
Entry
Everything comes in and goes out on the same day
There are over 30 Restaurants serving the freshest Seafood and Sushi
And some Restaurants have wait times of 30-60 Minutes
I bought one of these T-shirts....
Scallops.. I am getting hungry now
Impressive Market
There is a famous Tuna Auction between 5 and 6 am. You can register for it and see the best Tuna in the world with up to 300kg of weight being sold. Sometimes one Tuna goes for over 100.000$... The cool thing here is that you can walk around the market freely as long you do not disturb the normal operations. The Restaurants are all fantastic, they are sourcing their fish directly from the market, so every restaurant is incredible !!!
Have you been to Tsukiji before ???
