I travel the world Part 11: Fukuoka Shin-shin Ramen vs. Daruma Ramen (The ultimate Ramen Battle)
One of my favorite japanese dishes is Ramen, so i a presenting the ultimate Ramen Battle to you today.
Having sampled over 350 Ramen Stores in the world, i would call myself a Ramen geek.
When i ate Ramen in Fukuoka for the first time, i was speechless. It was so different from Ramen in Tokyo or the Tokai area. You have to know, that every Area in Japan has their own Ramen style.
Ramen is a japanese Noodle-soup, the noodles are made individually by each Ramen Restaurant.
I sampled around 15 Ramen shops in Fukuoka, but my two favorites are shinshin and Daruma Ramen.
Soooooo lets get readyyyy to rummmble !!!
In the blue corner:
shin-shin Tenjin Store
Address: 3 Chome-2-19 Tenjin, Chuo Ward, Fukuoka, Fukuoka Prefecture 810-0001, Japan
Phone: +81 92-732-4006
Review Shinshin:
shinshin Ramen offers a Chashu (Pork) Ramen with very thin noodles. the noodles are a bit al dente but very good. The soup is a bit oily, but not too much. The overall taste is very good i would rank this one 8.5/10 (Price ca. 9 USD)
In the red corner:
Hakata Dharma
Address: 1-8-25 Watanabedori, Chuo Ward, Fukuoka, Fukuoka Prefecture 810-0004, Japan
Phone:+81 92-761-1958
Daruma Ramen offers a Chashu (Pork) Ramen with thick noodles. the noodles are perfect. They are made everyday in the shop. The soup is very oily. The overall taste is very good i would rank this one 8.5/10 (Price ca. 9 USD)
So who will be the winner? Its a draw, isnt it? both have the same 8.5?
As with boxing, there can be only one Winner. Daruma has a signature dish, which you can see on this picture. It uses Pork belly instead of Chashu. And boy, for this one i would pay 50 $ if i could eat that once in a while without traveling to Fukuoka. That pork is like nothing you have eaten ever before, it just melts in your mouth like a great piece of toro tuna...
So my Winner is DARUMA RAMEN !!!

first i thought all the geeks are not interested in great food, but after all everybody likes tasty food ;)
I have travelled a few places - 3x Thailand/4x Hong kong/China/Philippines/3x Germany/Holland/2 x Israel lived in Australia for 10 years and Was most of my life in New Zealand. The one thing I enjoy is food, and I have to make sure I do a lot of exercises to keep the weight down, lol. When I travel I always make it my mission to taste the local cuisine. I normally try to befriend a local and get the best inside information on the best places to eat. Food is a wonderful thing and tasting something for the first time can be a amazing experience.
