Experiences of running a Airbnb
This weekend the guests we had were all foodies. They had booked the stay along with the food package included. I normally do not like to entertain the food part because it's a lot of headache but then they had come through some of our known people so we accepted to do it for them. They were 20 of them so definitely it was a big task for my team also to work on. And they had many special demands so it was a lot of work. My team did their best to fulfill all their demands and cater to all the needs that they had. But still in the end, on food front they did not seem to be very happy.
On the first day, whatever was served, there was lot of wastage in it and they told us that the quantity was too much and we need to serve less. So, the next day we served a less portion, and then they complained that the food was less. Though it was not less, there was wastage in that too. But as you say sometimes your eyes eat more then your mouth, such was the case with these people also. If we fulfilled their one demand they would have problem with something else. After a point it got very annoying. I was expecting that since they came with known references they would be understanding and wise, but that was not the case.
In the end when they left, there was a lot of food waste and I was feeling extremely sad about it. I asked them to take the remaining food home, which they did some of it but left quite a lot of it behind. For me there is no use of such food, because there are barely some people there who will eat, and again even my helpers do not like to eat the leftover food. Some of the food like rotis we could give to the cattle. After that also there was wastage. My whole point was that why do people behave so greedy when it comes to food. Especially on a holiday we do tend to overeat but still our stomach has certain limits to digest so beyond a point it is not possible.
With these people, I observed that even if they could not eat, they wanted it to be there. Probably because they thought that they paid for it so it should be there. My caretakers had a tough time dealing with their food demands and taking care of them, but they did their best. And the sad part was that when these people left they tipped the helpers so poorly, which was miserable. My helper told me that he wanted to return it back with a thankyou.
How can people be so unmindful and ungrateful. Already we had charged them less for the stay because they were our friend's reference, and then after that so much of food chaos and in the end not even appreciating the efforts of the helpers. It felt disappointing but then I keep telling myself this is business and there are all sorts of people that I will come across and different experiences that they will give me.

I've been in this situation. Some guests are never satisfied no matter what you do. You bend over backwards and they still find something to complain about. Congrats to your team for trying their best with those impossible demands lol
