The name given to this fort is given by the name of Lord Parashurama. The specialty of this fort is that, many temples of various goddesses have been built here. There is another mysterious story of this fort which is known to be very few people. Many people were sacrificed while they were making this fort and after that to save it from external attacks and they were all buried in the fort.

The fort of 'Purandar' is also known as the fort of 'Purandhar'. As far as this fort was started, the rule of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj had begun .
This famous fort is situated in the Western Ghats and is situated at a height of 4472 feet above sea level. The fort of Purandar and the fort of 'Vajragad' or 'Rudramal' are both forts of twin fortresses. But the fort of Vajragad is quite small in front of the Purandar Fort. The village named after this fort was also named Purandar and this village is situated in the side of the fort

When the Persian people defeated Yadava in the war, then the fort of Purandar went into possession of Persia and in the year 1350, the fort was rebuilt again. During the reign of Bijapur and Ahmednagar, this fort was controlled only by the direct government and it had never been handed over to the jagir.

In 1646, when Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj was very young, he attacked this Purandhar fort and took it under his control and along with it laid the foundation of the Maratha empire .

Mirza Raje Jaisingh led the army of Aurangzeb and attacked Purandar fort in 1665 and took possession of it himself, and in this work, Darder Khan also helped Jai Singh.

At the time of the attack, Murarbasi Deshpande of Mihar was the fortress of this fort and he fought with the full force of the Mughal army to save the fort till his last mother-in-law and in this fight, he was martyred while protecting the fort. After understanding this, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj was very angry, after which he had arranged the treaty of Purandar Purand in 1665 with Aurangzeb.

According to the Purandar Treaty, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj had to give Purandhar fort a total of 23 forts and four hundred thousand hoans (golden face) to Aurangzeb. According to the Purandar Treaty, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj was the vassal of that province.

But the treaty did not last long and in 1670 Chattrapati Shivaji Maharaj once again attacked Aurangzeb and took possession of the fort.

When the Peshwas ruled, their capital city was attacked at Pune, then they resorted to the Purandar Fort. In 1776 Purandar's second treaty was held between the Maratha army and the British. No condition of this treaty was fulfilled, but in 1782, the Treaty of Salbai came in the middle of the Bombay Government and Raghunathrao and during the time the Anglo-Maratha war was at the last stop.

In 1818, the British army was under the command of General Prizalar on Purandar Fort. On 14 March 1818 the English army invaded Vajragad. In the last, the commander of Vajargad was defeated and the British Army flag was hoisted on March 16, 1818, while acknowledging the conditions of the British army.

In the time of British, this fort was used as a prison. During World War II, camps were organized for the family of enemies (German) in this fort. The Jewish and Aryan people of Germany were kept in this fort. During the Second World War, the German Dr. H. Goethe was kept captive. But the British used to use this fort as a health building.

There is another story related to this fort, according to him a Persian had asked a person to sacrifice his child and wife. After killing them, they were buried in the turret of the fort. After that, two villages were handed over to that person

Purandar Fort is only 60 km away from Pune.

By the way: Saswad can be reached by a public and private vehicle. After reaching Saswad, bus facility is available to Vahase Narayanpur.

From the railway: The nearest junction is Pune Junction. The fort is only 45 km away from here. From Pune to Purandar, it can also be reached by road.

From Airplane: Pune Airport is very close to here. All the cities can be reached from Pune Airport. Tourists can easily reach Purandar Fort via Pune.

When this fort was under the control of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj then at this time the commander of this fort was Murshahar Deshpande. But after some time the Mughals attacked this fort. The Mughals attacked a large number of fortresses. But the Chief of the fort Murarbashi Deshpande tried his best to save this fort till the last breath.

He also gave his life to save the fort of Purandar. That is why in his memory, a statue of Murshahar has also been built in this fort. At this time, this fort used to be in the control of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj's grandfather.
